If you ever turn on your radio, chances are you are already familiar with the work of Nile Rodgers. First and foremost associated with his band CHIC and super hits like "I Want Your Love" or "Le Freak", Rodgers’ extra-sharp guitar play and production expertise can also be heard on timeless records by David Bowie, Duran Duran, Madonna, Sister Sledge and Diana Ross. Watch his epic three-and-a-half-hour-long session with Benji B at the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 in Madrid. Good times, indeed. Watch the second part of this lecture here: http://vimeo.com/32401638

December 2013 I VJ'd at the Subsonic Festival, which was not far from where I was 30 years previous at the Tanelorn Festival. I started the set with some original footage of Tanelorn & then moved it into referencing Woodstock, drugs, lasers & tities. As Nile Rodgers was the headliner, I cheekily added Chic & his Daft Punk Lucky track as an ending. Track-list: 01: Going up to Tanelorn - Canned Heat (Martin Kennedy video) 02: DJ Zebra - Rock Show and Soul Freak- Missy Elliot vs Country Joe & the Fish (Boris B video) 03: Mad Buddha - All I got up in smoke - Cheech & Chong vs Tom Craft Eniac Vocal mix 04: Javie Lopez - Ajax Lady 05: DJ Girl6 - Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band (DJ Crime) 06: Addictive TV - Beam Up The Bass (Star Trek) 07: Leuchar - Lazer Tits (D.O.T.T.S.F.) (InDaPROD) 08: RESET! - Sabrage (Luigi Scattini) 09: Kill Bill - Ironside [Funky Panda Remix] 10: TRENTINO - Jesse Pinkman (Bitch!) (VJ Blaze) 11: Addictive TV - Wuthering Cuts (Kate Bush) 12: Barbara Windsor - Ducky Sauce 13: Felix Da Housecat - Watching Cars Go By (Cyberwhore) 14: SmokeEaters - Mad World Tears\Taxi Driver 15: Diesel Productions SFW XXX - Klaas & Bodybangers - Freak 16: DJ Magbet - Girls on Film Freak Out (Duran Duran vs. Chic) 17: Ayee Mashup - Black Betty come & get lucky together - (Ram Jam vs Daft Punk vs Beatles) A big thank you to all the video producers, mash-up artists & re-mixers for content.

In 1977 the music world would begin dancing to a music group out of New York City that would be played in the all the discos. Guitarist Nile Rodgers, drummer Tony Thompson, and bassist Bernard Edwards would become a driving force to soul music behind the scenes in rock and eventually other popular music genres. Chic was disco’s last swan song although Nile and Bernard would continue the lush orchestrations and slick funk productions throughout their musical partnership. Along with vocalist Norma Jean Wright, Chic produced a catalogue hits that remain a staple all house, techo, and dance disc jockeys and producers all over the world. Hits like “I Want Your Love,” “Dance, Dance, Dance,” “Le Freak,” and “Good Times” have been sampled and looped by tens of thousands of groups and rap artists for well over 35 years. Recently the co-founding member of Chic, Nile Rodgers, just released his memoir “Le Freak: An Upside Down Story of Family,Disco, and Destiny.” Nile reflects on his surviving cancer, cocaine addiction, family deaths, and his life as a well demand producer. The New York City native candidly recounts his childhood, him developing into one of the the most in-demand record producers producing for the likes of Madonna, David Bowie, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Palmer, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Duran Duran just to name a few. In addition to being a well accomplished record producer, Nile has scored and composed music for the big screen. His list of films are “Coming to America,” “Beverly Hill Cop III,” “Blue Chips,” and “Earth Girls Are Easy.” Currently Nile is producing music for slew of video games which include “Halo 2 & 3,” “Rise of Nations,” and “Perfect Dark Zero.” He still performs with Chic Organization where he and his band play music of Chic and the hit records he’s produced over the years for other artists. For upcoming tour dates or to find out information about his foundation, please visit him online at www.nilerodgers.com.

I'm not a follower of the latest pop music by any means, but I stumbled across, then fell in love with, Daft Punk's new album, Random Access Memories. Its takes a classic funk and pop feel from the seventies and early eighties and yet creates something that feels not like a retread or recreation, but totally new - and infectiously danceable. The Creators Project produced eight separate short interviews with each of the collaborators Daft Punk worked with on this album. However, with so many perceptive comments and common themes spread across the different films, I felt they begged to be combined into one conventional full documentary. That's what I've done here - and the result is only about 20 minutes long, compared to the hour and seven minutes' total running time of the original videos. I hope you enjoy it.
