It was an honor to make this video for the Finding Shelter Kickstarter campaign: http://kck.st/1N72mGm. Finding Shelter is a fantastic new project profiling animal shelter volunteers together with their furry friends. A traveling photography project, a book, and a social media campaign that will rebrand our nation’s animal shelters and unveil the truth: shelters are a place of love, warmth and healing full of animals who are ready and willing to fill your life with joy.

Family Dogs New Life Shelter is a non-profit no kill dog shelter located in Portland Oregon. Dedicated to rescuing and rehoming needy dogs of all ages, breeds and backgrounds; our organization was built on the belief that all dogs deserve a second chance at a new life. It’s not about being the perfect dog, it is about dog and adopter being perfect for one another. We are here for the dogs who have no other options. This includes dogs that other shelters do not have space for, long term residents who have run out of time or dogs that are struggling in the conventional shelter environment. Our mission, simply, is to help reduce the number of dogs being euthanized. Please donate today at http://www.familydogsnewlife.org/donating-to-family-dogs/ and help give the gift of life.

Started by 28 friends in 1984 with little money, no master plan, few construction skills, and countless lives hanging in the balance, Best Friends Animal Society now runs the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as other life-saving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country. The work inspired by the founders of Best Friends has yielded a movement known as “Save Them All” and has created a significant cultural shift in how animals are treated. That movement, rooted in the simple notions of right versus wrong, kindness over killing, individual value over faceless numbers, has taken hold in all corners of the country, from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City to Brown County, Indiana. Since its founding 30 years ago, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in U.S. shelters from 17 million per year to 4 million. The story of the creation of Best Friends and of its founders could be compared to other pivotal social movements: John Muir and The Sierra Club; Jane Goodall and the Goodall Institute’s Preservation of Species. It is also a story comparable to the beginnings of other iconic brands like Apple and Nike. Steve Jobs started Apple in his garage, seeking to get a computer into the hands of everyday people; Bill Bowerman, a University of Oregon Track and Field Coach who wanted to improve the performance of his athletes, joined with avid runner Phil Knight to create Nike. The story of Best Friends is one to be shared with anyone who might be inspired by the power of a belief and how that belief can change attitudes, transform lives, and create a better world.

In a world overpopulated with stray and abandoned animals, we all play a part in protecting and caring for our fellow creatures of God. For 23 years, Lynea and her crew have been running the United States' largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption center. Their mission is to place rescued cats and kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy and healthy home for unwanted cats and kittens in a unique, no-cage facility; to prevent pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. Since its founding 23 years ago, The Cat House on the Kings has saved over 24,000 cats and 7,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals we have spayed and neutered!) and currently cares for more than 700 cats and kittens, a dozen or so dogs and a handful of goats, who earn their keep as lawnmowers! The Cat House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, receives no government or public funding, and relies entirely on donations from the public to carry out its mission.
