1. Non-Monogamies by Dr Meg John Barker

    from Pink Therapy / Added

This presentation covers the range of non-monogamous relationships which clients may engage in, and good practice for counsellors and therapists in this area. As with sexual and gender identities, it is becoming increasingly clear that there are a diverse range of relationships styles within and beyond the single/coupled and monogamous/non-monogamous binaries. This presentation covers some of the most common forms of consensual non-monogamy as well as briefly touching on non-consensual forms, and on relationship structures which fall between monogamy and non-monogamy. It explores key issues around relationship styles, particularly continuums of emotional and sexual fidelity; contracts; disclosure; and how people navigate wider mono-normative culture. Dr Meg John Barker is a writer, academic, counsellor and activist specialising in sex and relationships. Meg John is a senior lecturer in psychology at the Open University and a UKCP accredited therapist, and has over a decade of experience researching and publishing on these topics including the popular book Rewriting the Rules. Synopsis: Everything meaningful in Vanessa's life is falling apart. She is a failing actress, poorly performing at rehearsals only shortly before opening night. She is on a career path to nowhere, stuck working at a flower shop at minimum wage. She proposes to a man she thought loves her, but is swiftly rejected, only finding out later he has a wife. When everything you care for seems to be falling into a black hole, what do you do? Who do you go to if you have no one? All Vanessa wants is to be someone else. In this psychological drama, the actress reinvents herself completely in an effort to find confidence and cure her loneliness. She finds herself taking a daring step into the underground world at an adult party as her new self, Ivy. This is a film I wrote and directed under the NSCAD University film program for my Thesis level class with Sam Fisher. This film was produced in Halifax, Nova Scotia on a tiny budget of under $3000 and generous volunteer actors. It was shot on the RED Mysterium camera. I am also the lead editor and colourist. I am fluent with the RED camera work flow, including operating the camera and putting it together as I have been first camera assistant and focus puller on two other films. Justin Tomchuk made all the original music. Hopefully, you will see this film at the festivals! This film stars Emily Pettet as Vanessa and Rebecca Babcock as Ivy. The other characters are: Joel Diamond as Cal, Agnes Laan as Christine, Mark Kilby as the Florist, Nathalie Morneau as the Theatre Director, Bill Kidney as Ross, and Veronica Reynolds as Sylvia.
