      • Subhumans - From The Cradle To The Grave @ Northcote Social Club, Northcote (17th Sept 2012)

THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE LONGEST HD VIDEO THAT I HAVE EVER POSTED!!! I thought punk bands were know for their short sharp abrasive songs that are lucky to be three minutes long. Well last night, the legendary UK anarcho-punk band SUBHUMANS went all PROG ROCK with a epic 16 minute rendition of "From The Cradle To The Grave" from their 1983 album of the same title. September 2012 welcomes the arrival of a defining name of 1980s British Punk Rock: SUBHUMANS. This will be the band’s first-ever-Australasian tour and features the 1981 line-up of Dick, Trotsky, Bruce and Phil that recorded their debut EP “Demolition War” in 1981 and classic albums such as ‘The Day The Country Died’ and were an integral part of the UK anarcho-punk scene. Since reforming in 1998, SUBHUMANS have released a live album for the infamous Fat Wreck Chords, a new set of studio tracks, ‘Internal Riot’ on the band’s own Bluurg label, as well playing to packed venues throughout the world including headlining festivals such as Rebellion. “”Frontman Dick Lucas is totally engaging. There is a fierce intelligence here in his lyrics, his delivery and his between song banter where his passion for the old school punk political hits home. They play fast and there is a wild, feral energy to what they do. They have this punk rock thing so honed down, so perfect – the fluidity of the rhythm section, mind boggling brilliant bass lines from Phil to let yourself go to and Trotsky’s stop start drums that never settle for a boring 4/4 when something more exciting will do are so effective. Bruce’s rasping punk rock guitar completes the perfect backdrop for Dick’s passionate delivery – he works himself up into a sweatshod frenzy as the band hit the stage in top gear and never leave that level of intensity. If you still need any proof of the intelligence and anti establishment smarts in punk rock then the Subhumans are still out there, still meaning something and still making sense in a senseless world.” For more information about SUBHUMANS: http://www.citizenfish.com

Colin descirbes the work as "a one-man-show about the girl of my dreams. Maybe Lou never loved me I never really knew her at all but that’s a perspective I’ll never see. This is what I remember." 'Boob' is a short story by Mara Coson that was adapted into a short film for the EWFdigital section of the Emerging Writers' festival. -- 'Boob' was read aloud by a group of different people taking turns with the aim of executing a cohesive and flowing narrative that removes the notion of 'solitary reading' that befalls literature nowadays. As primarily a word-processor writer, the film was my attempt at a dialogue with a medium slightly foreign to me. The awkward unfamiliarity of delving into mixed media was a process somehow made easier by the longstanding tradition of the narrative to move easily from mouth to paper to screen to anything. Special thanks: Subterranean Vintage-Retro, Northcote Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre Kathleen McNamee The people involved in the film (see end credits) ... and to Brendan who, on a cold day, had to jump into the outdoor pool with a broken heater many many times. About face: Mara Coson was isolated from other babies as a result of coming out before her mother reached the operating room. She was born blue. At seven, she tried to run away but couldn’t go past the gate of her house. That same year, she believed that the Holy Spirit told her to become a nun and experienced a crisis. At twelve, she wanted to be in a band famous for not wearing bras. She never learned how to play the guitar, but her long-haired guitar teacher told her a Sanskrit story that a man wanted to kill himself and chanted rama rama rama, until it became mara mara mara, meaning wisdom, and chose to live. The young Filipino writer eventually picked up her bags and moved to Melbourne to study, where she had her hair chopped off and became a wordplay pun-dit, dashboard zinemaker, and an occasional contributor to Broadsheet Melbourne and the Philippine Daily Inquirer. She’s been published in Voiceworks twice.

These are all of my SUBHUMANS photographs from their two Melbourne shows. The dates are Saturday the 15th of September 2012 at The Bendigo Hotel in Collingwood and Monday the 17th of September 2012 at The Northcote Social Club in Northcote. Both sets had a complete different set of songs and the band gave it their all. It is such a pleasure to be ask by the tour management to photograph the tour of a legendary UK punk act that I admire. Both concert had a great energetic punk vibe, which I haven't experienced in years! The audio is "Apathy" from the 1985 album "Worlds Apart". "Peroxide" from the 1982 Reason For Existance EP. Finally, "Subvert City" from the 1983 album "The Day The Country Died". September 2012 welcomes the arrival of a defining name of 1980s British Punk Rock: SUBHUMANS.
