Show I did in Nov. 2012 @ the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. That night my homeboy Shaun Kelly played Djembe for an acoustic rap set we did not included in this video (wish I had that footage!). The house dj spun the tracks featured in the video. Awesome night as I had a lot of fam in the audience including my lovely lady and of course heads from Team Turmoil! Fun fact: The Nuyorican poets Cafe is the 1st real stage I ever rocked a mic on back in the day when my boy Bizzie Bizerk brought me to an open mic there.

              • The Nuyorican spirit lives on in Slam

                from MEKtext Network / Added

The Nuyorican Poets Café began in the living room of one of its founders - Miguel Algarin - in the early seventies. It has become a breeding ground modern arts such as Saul Williams and Myda del Valle. The small venue boasts a modest beer and wine selection, a tiny fever hot balcony that is slightly bigger than the tiny stage, and a very long line - usually wrap around the block - every Friday night. Mahogany L. Browne's weekly roll call proves the people come from around the world for a chance to slam, or to simply sit indian style on the floor to hear poetry here. On May 11, 2012 the venue hosted its second to last run off slam to decide the 2012 Nuyorican National Slam Team. I was honored to be the featured poet.

A 25 minute excerpt from the 90 minute PBS documentary that aired in 1997. Although the computers look antiquated, the issues haven't gone away: concern for campus diversity, both among student population and faculty; the controversy over affirmative action; the attacks on Ethnic Studies, etc. Through profiling eight faculty -- Asian-American, Latino, Native America, African-American -- this documentary makes an eloquent educational argument for affirmative action. It also cuts through the rhetoric of the Culture Wars of the 90s. It has been used extensively on campuses around the country to stimulate conversation about the issues of affirmative action and diversity. For more information: www.gailpellettproductions.com
