1. Obsolete

    from Smoking Robot Added 61.1K 1,269 39

Obsolete tells the story of a robot starting work in a decaying toy factory. Trapped in the factory all its life it is curious about the outside world, watching a bird through the factory wall each day. When it mistakes a toy on the production line for the bird it sets the robots escape in motion. Created by Lewis Gray. Music, various songs by Nine Inch Nails. www.nin.com

        • Gender Obsolescence - Human Installation #1 (Obsolescenza del Genere - Installazione Umana #1)

Obsolescenza del Genere - Installazione Umana #1 Gender Obsolescence - Human Installation #1 by Kyrahm and Julius Kaiser AWARD: ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE - PERFORMANCE ART - 2009 (International Art prize - Venezia, Italy) International Festivals: IDKEX, Columbus (Ohio) - USA 2008 chosen among the 30 best gender exploration performances in the world Berlin Drag Festival - Germany 2008 Gender Obsolescence The solemn ritual presents variety of genders and describes FtM (Female to Male) transition. The naked body and the I. The mask and the stereotype. It’s a gynandroid performance where the transition process is intermingled with poetry. Sex is represented as skin, female, male. Gender is represented in the sense of self, of man, and of woman. A journey, a crossing, a transition. Naked bodies lined up slowly coming closer. Each individual has a story. They are holding hands. Changing sex is painful like birth. The golden masks on their faces are not to hide their identities: In fact as they come closer it is possible to distinguish their genders: a biological man, a trans man, a trans woman, a biological woman. From the bottom of the stage, a female creature unfolds from behind a black towel and goes to stand behind them: she walks across touching the bodies, one after the other. The pain is tiring, the flesh a substance to be shaped. The solemn rite of dressing up - in trousers, jacket and tie: it's the return to the opposite. For a transsexual changing sex is not becoming a man but a return to being a man. There is no need to wear the masks anymore: the self is revealed. photos by Dario De Dominicis

"Math" The Opening piece from "Obsolete?" For more information visit www.pixelh8.co.uk Pixelh8’s most recent work “Obsolete?” is a audio and visual study of the people, machines, history of The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley Park and looks closely at the themes of mathematics, logic, code-breaking and enciphering. The project was funded by the PRS Foundations new music award and commissioned by The National Museum of Computing. The music itself is composed using some of the oldest and rarest computers in the world such as the WWII code-breaking machine Colossus Mark 2 Rebuild, and the 1960’s Elliott 803 largely used for mathematics and some of the more commonplace machines such as the BBC Micro. With over thirty machines studied and utilised within the music, it is a combination of both sounds from the internal sound chips and the external electro-mechanical sounds. In addition to this, the piece also utilises such items as the early non-electrical mechanical adding machines. The project was comprised of twelves pieces of music and accompanying visuals and culminated in two performances at the prestigious Bletchley Park Mansion on March 20th and 21st, 2009.
