    • Bobby's Story: Facing Foreclosure

From Occupy Minneapolis: Occupy Minneapolis will begin another home occupation to defend Vietnam era veteran Bobby Hull from eviction this Tuesday, on the national day of action against foreclosures called by Occupy Wall Street. Bobby has bravely served his country as a US Marine during the Vietnam War era and despite his sacrifice he and his family are facing eviction this winter. Bobby first began living in his South Minneapolis home when his mother bought it in 1968. The title was later transferred to him, and he made timely payments on the house for decades while his nine brothers and sisters and innumerable extended family used the home as a stable transition point as they worked through the economic downturn. Some recent health problems have caused him to fall behind in his payments. Meanwhile, US Bank has refused to negotiate with him to keep him and his family in their home. If we do nothing he and his family are facing a February eviction, in the dead of winter, with nowhere to go. Come hear directly from Bobby on the need for banks to change the way they do business with hard working families. Bobby was surprised to learn that we were organizing to help him and others in his position. “Thank God this is happening. I’ve read the Constitution and I know that it’s supposed to be ‘We the people’", Said homeowner Bobby Hull. "If people start getting together we may have a chance. I’ve served my time in Vietnam and I’m not afraid to fight again.”

This video was shot in downtown Los Angeles on October 8th and 9th, 2011. OccupyLA had already been camped out at Los Angeles City Hall for two weeks, hundreds of tents surrounded the building. For a "leaderless" movement, the activists are incredibly organized. Already they have a media tent, kitchen tent, first aide center and a lender library. Monetary donations are meticulously recorded and receipts given back to the donors. Their A/V systems are solar powered. They hope to have a weekly newspaper up and running in the next few days. I have no idea what's going to happen next, but I was excited by what I saw. Thousands of people rallied or visited the tent city while I was there. Conversations were numerous, anger was tangible, and hope was still very much alive. If we're lucky, what we are witnessing is the rebirth of the American Dream in a new generation. The road will be long, the going hard. They will need our help, and we must not fail them. The beginning is near. Be the change you're looking for. On the web: www.occupywallstreet.org www.occupylosanges.org www.facebook.com/OccupyWallSt On Twitter: hashtag: #ows @OccupyWallSt @OccupyLA

www.nomovement.com The most difficult obstacle facing the occupation movements throughout the United States was not the billy club or mace, nor mass arrests (those proved to be lightning rods), but rather an inability or at least, an extreme difficulty, in articulating their message(s) to the everyday American. Regardless of one's political beliefs this movement marked a shift, a step, however slight or lasting, that is worth understanding and noting for history. The intention of the film is to create a space where those messages, ideas, critiques, and alternatives can be articulated and experienced in a way that is both clear and digestible. In a distinct departure from new and mainstream media, the film incorporates long, static portraits of various occupiers while non-sync audio plays underneath. This method is used to convey the movement's anonymity as well as the collective, ego-less voice of the 99%. No one's voice is connected to their own image. Each portrait, containing an occupier staring into the camera gives human faces to slogans and catchwords, and protest signs while maintaining the confrontational aspects of their growing movement. As the political rhetoric amps up for the upcoming 2012 elections this film offers a rare moment to meditate upon one of the most important political movements of recent or distant past.
