This is the first year we had our truck show at Route 65 Classics in Ham Lake Minnesota. The date was June 9th. This show and date replaced our Father's Day Shows held for many years at Ellingson Car Museum in Rogers. This is also the first year of trying to publish a video.

The Minnesota Metro Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society held its second show at Route 65 Classics in Ham Lake, Minnesota on June 8, 2013. It was a nice day and a good turnout. Like last year, I carried my little camcorder to record the event.

Trip home The afternoon before we started for home, Greg, Rient, and I did a little site seeing with Dr. Matt and his family in the C-180, and our friend Don in the PA14. The three of us were going to head toward Ohio in the Scout and the S7, and Rient was then going on to his home in the Netherlands. The next morning we left early and stopped for breakfast at a road side joint in Eureka. Later for a lunch stop, we chose a place recommended by our buddy, Eric. That is a cafe in Chicken, Alaska, which was a little out of the way north, but with Northway shutting down, we were looking for new places. We highly recommend this stop. At Chicken you taxi off the gravel strip, up a hill on the dirt highway about a mile. The cafe is on the left. Then you taxi in amongst the cars, motor homes, and motor cycles. You will be a hero. The owner says her business really picks up when airplanes are in her parking lot. We did Canada customs at Dawson, Yukon. A very nice and easy experience. From there we did a whole bunch of very remote flying down to Watson Lake from the north, and we got to miss Whitehorse and Burwash that way.(both were good places for us to miss). Somewhere along the way, we found a strange airstrip to land on for a short break. (it was very narrow, but was 10 miles long and was gravel)? Rient is standing by the plane at that one. A strange highlight for me was when everyone wanted a bathroom break; I saw enough room to land inside this electrified farm machinery junk yard in North Dakota. They had some of everything there. Cool old trucks among the tractors. The next rest stop was in a farmer's hay field somewhere full of round bales to dodge. When we got home, I put Rient to work mowing grass. The theme song "One Headlight" by the Wall Flowers is for the one head-light yellow VW bug in the junk yard.

Back in early 2009, I stopped by at a Mill in Daylesford Victoria Australia to have a bit of fun with the video function in my 5DMKII and without much planning, I found myself interviewing the Owner for a mini doco. Barry is a Beekeeper, who not only makes Honey but creates everything he needs to make the Honey. That includes growing the timber to mill into bee boxes etc. Over the years he has collected a bewildering array of surplus including steam engines (which run the sawmill's kiln) hundreds of cars and industrial tools. Barry is an amazing character that typifies hardworking country Australians & his story is entertaining & engaging to listen to. I initially didn't feel that what I did was good enough for release because it was hand held, using the 1.04 firmware, no external sound gear etc. I also had left the Image Stabiliser on by mistake which made the audio pretty ratty. However, Barry's story is so great and his workplace is fascinating that I've changed my mind. Shot entirely on a Canon 5DMKII, no lighting was used. It's all available light on a day that was pretty wet and cold. The "Beekeeper" was edited in Final Cut Pro where I did add some colour adjustments here and there. Mostly though, the image is as shot. To clean up the audio, I used Soundtrack Pro where I was able to sample the IS Noise and reduce it. I actually went back to visit Barry a few months later, this time with a Dolly and Lights, proper Sound Gear etc. I shot a lot of new footage but afterwards I didn't include it because it took away the honestly and simplicity of this Raw version. Adding a Dolly and making it look so slick sometimes changes your perception and it starts to look manufactured and not real. Let me know what you think. Perhaps in the future I will add the second version as a comparison. For now though, enjoy "The Beekeeper"

Almost as if one who grew up in a small Kansas town went back years and years later to revisit it. Hauntingly, in a forlorn sort of way, pulls a loneliness type of emotion from the viewer.
