        • Pond life.

          from Loren Lewis Added 60 2 0

A few microscope clips of some organisms found in a local pond. Videos were all hand-held, obviously. The cameras: used: (IPhone 5S, Olympus C5050Z with an achromatic triplet assembled with under the guidance of Jens Birch), and Olympus OM-D EM-1, all focused on the microscope eyepiece, with the exception of the C5050/triplet which replaced the eyepiece. The organism in the middle of this short clip, the one with the multifaceted eye, was at the very edge of the drop of water on the slide when I filmed him. I think the strange reflection of the top of his head is a result of light diffracting off that edge, but anyone watching this can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. PS... when I checked on him an hour later, he had escaped and is nowhere to be found. I hope he's not looking for me. The larger 'things' are 2-4 mm in length. The one celled (amoebae?) feeding on the dead larger things are, well, really, really tiny. I don't understand why they're so small, they never stop eating! Footnote: They don't grow larger because they only live one day, then split into 2 new baby organisms, who will also only live one day and split...etc... (until the water dries up). Then they live in a dried up state, waiting until they are exposed to water again, and at that point they come back to life.. (so the book said).

Title: Digital Organisms Concept: Abstract visuals combine organic and digital forms through music in order to transport the viewer into an entirely different space. This exploration in abstract projection mapping and visual music comes to life in a place between the organic and the digital. The combination of references from the digital landscape, man-made forms, fine art, and nature itself inspired the creation of Digital Organisms.
