Under An Alias is the new big fairytale of nerdworking, a digital historical expression. This time our story takes place in a small German town; Weimar. The effect of a small town with the population of 65,000 people on the world concerns all of us, a city where the majority of its income is from culture. Weimar is a meeting and creation point for eminent intellectuals of our current times. This town, where Goethe wrote his masterpieces, where the music of Franz Liszt could be heard. This is where its republic of Germany was founded in 1919, whose legacy was subsequently marred by the establishment of a Nazi concentration camp in 1937. Weimar, a city that currently merges art and architecture in Bauhaus university, has many untold stories. Although difficult, telling Weimar’s story was incredibly educational for an Istanbul based group of artists. It gave an opportunity for nerdworking illustrate a story from another perspective. Dozens of people spent long hours immersing themselves the rich cultural background, whilst taking into consideration the opinions of previous researchers. Under An Alias, created by collaboration of international artists and working completely in cyberspace, made its debut as the main act of the Genius Loci Festival. Under An Alias was on exhibition from 10th till 12th of August on Fürstenhaus, Franz Liszt Conservatory, each night from 8PM till the early hours, several times a night. We decided that there couldn’t be anything more appropriate, than projecting the analogy onto this iconic building. The initial section is the spirit, then the muscles then the skin of this tribute to the legacy of Weimar was created. The story was based on the linear history of the city, the abstract origin slowly turned into decaying effect in the years of war. Then the exploding Bauhaus movement after the World War II is portrayed with a statement to pay homage to one of movement's greatest masters; Kandinsky. Then the story flows into the German industrial machine, healing its wounds from the diffused times with aggressive images of engineering and machinery. And finally, after all of city's turbulent history, we are waving goodbye to Weimar with its peace and order as a giant music box. We appreciate her hospitality. Under An Alias was made by nerdworking's crew of 22 people from different disciplines architectures, new media artists, sound designers and the staff of Genius Loci Weimar. Enjoy the show, till the next fairytale. CYGNUS is one of the rare conceptual light performances staged in Istanbul to date. Four teams, Bİ'ŞEYLER New Media Works, OUCHHH, Panpiper and Staras came together and set out to explore constellation Cygnus, the Swan, which is home to Cygnus X-1, a galactic X-ray source believed to be a stellar mass black hole. The light installation was performed in a 2400-m2 venue on December 18-19, 2014 in Istanbul. Using 46 Clay Paky Sharpies and 2 Atmosphere Hazers, the performance immersed 2000 viewers in the experience of the constellation which is believed to be about 5 million years old. Light sources were placed to surround the audience at different heights to allow light flow above their heads, creating a void at the center which prompted viewers to interpret the notion of a black hole. The project design is the collective work of Bİ'ŞEYLER New Media Works, a young scenography team of designers with multi-disciplinary expertise, and Ouchhh, an independent design studio with cross-discipline focused on interactive new media platforms, kinetic sculpture, offering direction and art direction and also producing video mapping projections. The name CYGNUS is chosen by the Ouchhh creative directors Ferdi Alıcı and Eylül Duranağaç who also created the lighting concept. The sound was prepared by Mehmet Ünal (PanPiper), and technical implementation is programmed by Sezgin Karaağaç (Staras) by structuring each individual light. The project is produced by Burcu Ece Yılmaz and Gökhan Okuyucu (Bi’şeyler). As the first project of an experimental concept, a unique project in Istanbul, the CYGNUS Immersive Light Installation Performance was staged at the MARKA 2014 International Brand Conference in İstanbul to allow attendees to immerse themselves in an experience that would take them beyond the confines of the venue. The concept of CYGNUS Immersive Light Installation Performance will be reproduced in future projects as part of events and festivals, and aims at exploiting the team’s worldwide relations for creating experimental platforms that reach wide audiences. CYGNUS "The first celestial body containing a black hole was first observed in 1971. It was discovered that the brightest star in the Swan Constellation, the CYGNUS X-1binary star emitted x-rays." Plugin Istanbul Dedicated to showcasing new media, the Plugin New Media Section, now in its second year of running between November 13th to November 16th 2014 at the Istanbul Congress Centre and the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre (ICEC). This year a special emphasis is being given to sound; the medium which is becoming popular by the day. Most importantly, it has a very large scope, which sets it apart from other fairs of its kind. It focuses not only on video art, but on presenting as many examples as possible of the wide array of genres that make up the digital art and design scene: sound and light installations, interactive and generative design, indoor mapping projects and robotic designs to name but a few. Plugin aims for variety not only in its choice of works but also in terms of its participants. As a fresh addition to the fair scene, Plugin accepts not only commercial galleries but also design, architecture and motion graphics studios specializing on large scale light, sound or interactive installations. Even digital agencies with an eye for what’s novel and pathbreaking in digital art and design are welcome. Istanbul is now the place to be for anyone working in digital art and design -with an increasing number of motion graphic studios and digital agencies, which can boast to be among the best in Europe; with the upcoming Istanbul Design Biennial, which will run coterminous with Contemporary Istanbul; with major international digital design festivals like OFFF Istanbul and Grid taking place in Istanbul over the last couple of years; and with ever growing sales in video art and a new hype for collecting digital art. The fair will not only provide lucrative commercial opportunities for artists and galleries, but also be a platform for studios to showcase their work and get future commissions. Plugin also brought a novel approach to fair design with its bold choice of using only black walls in its first year. Coupled with lower than normal lighting throughout the section, this choice was informed by the belief that positioning new media works in normal art fair settings did not do justice to the genre. It also gave the section a unique identity that made it possible for Plugin to stand out while still being an integral part of the fair. This will remain to be a lasting trademark of the section marking not only Plugin’s presence in Contemporary Istanbul but also its dedication to providing the best possible environment for exhibiting video art and new media. Vitra Experience Lounge is a 3D mapping project that took place in Unicera İstanbul between 14‐18 April 2012.In a 12 m2 lounge area, Vitra products were represented in a visually appealing composition. A 6 min. film was projected on bathroom furnitures, which were placed on the lounge area wall. The projection was the visualisation of 20 different tile and furniture sets within the conceptual framework of bathroom culture, which Vitra communicates though its brand identity. Inspired by the brand message; “To be born anew everyday” , the visuals transformed the lounge area and let the visitor get immersed into a beautiful experience from sunsrise to sunset. The aesthetic appearance of the projection was designed with the aim of perceiving the products beyond their usual representation.
