This was an experiment in my Masters of Art project at Monash University. Looking at the Australian Media's portrayal of police in Cop Dramas of the 70s and 80s. Why are we watching American repeats of crap when there are many crazy Aussie shows in the archives we could be watching that are never seen? Here is a selection of Australian cop dramas from the 70s and 80s.

The Last Days of Joe Blow is a slap-in-the-face documentary about one man’s journey through the cutthroat world of the LA porn scene. Told in a staggeringly frank and honest manner by one of its male stars, Michael Tierney or ‘Joe Blow’. THE LAST DAYS OF JOE BLOW takes us headlong into the belly of the beast – giving us a rare window into a world rarely seen by outsiders. We hear Joe’s various war stories from the porn frontline, and meet a mixed bag of porn's more colourful identities including veteran Bill Margold, industry trouble maker Donny Long and porn legend Ron Jeremy. At the heart of the film is Tierney’s personal crisis surrounding his decision to get out of ‘the life’ and his involvement in the notorious Porn WikiLeaks scandal - a scandal that nearly tore apart the porn community. Richard Wolstencroft is one of the most controversial filmmakers in Australia and his latest film is a wild and raunchy ride that’ll take you on a Hunter Thompson style ‘gonzo’ cinematic trip into Tierney’s decadent, dazzling and increasingly desperate world.

Two pest exterminator’s head into the bush to search for the legendary lost treasure of the bushranger, ‘Thunderclap Newman’. The pair find their bounty but what they didn’t count on was an encounter with Australia’s mythical Yowie, a giant ape-like killing machine, hungry for human flesh! Starring Vernon Wells (MAD MAX), THROWBACK is a good old fashioned monster flick, a thrilling joyride from start to finish and a prime example of the new wave of Australian genre cinema.

Produced for The Horror Channel to promote a season of Australia's most appalling yet appealing contemporary horror films. The concept was inspired by the aura of disquiet invoked by one of the featured films: Crawl. I wanted to recreate that same tense, ominous and brooding atmosphere and reflect the dark and violent nature of the films. Initially I planned to use an a capella version of an Australian folk song. Yes, they exist! But most of the songs are relatively fast paced sea shanties and I couldn't find lyrics to fit the promo, so a colleague suggested I pen my own lyrics (thanks Dan!). Sultry songstress Joanna Gregory lent me her dulcet tones and the vocals were recorded by Imagem Production Music. Building a sequence without a beat to cut to felt alien to me, so I downloaded a click track and that dictated the placement of the vocals, edit points and sound effects (which took me a whole painstaking day to source!). Graphic designer George Bowler created a grungy, blood spattered end board and matching captions which fit perfectly with the season while keeping on brand. Finally audio engineer Michael Pacheco added his own blood, sweat and tears to the sound design, resulting in an audio mix which gave me goosebumps. Best watched in a dark room with surround sound! And crank it up!
