Girlie Girl is an amazing dog who has overcome so many obstacles during her short life and ALWAYS with tail wags and kisses too! She absolutely loves life and that includes everything and everybody in it! But she hasn't always had good times. She was found as a stray after being hit by a car and paralyzed. Now months later and many vet visits later too, she is ready for her forever home and walking again! The only clue that Sweet Girlie hasn't always been the picture of health is the bootie she now wears. Her back foot never quite regained feeling and two of her foot bones wear destroyed by infection after the accident. Before Girlie Girl got her custom bootie, we went to 4 different vets trying to get rid of the infection, considered amputation and bought an expensive dog brace. Nothing helped and we were at a complete loss, until one of our volunteers decided to think outside the box and seek unconventional help from a human type prosthetic/orthotics laboratory. Once we told them Girlie Girls story and the problem with her foot, they immediately agreed to help...and for free! A wonderful man named Josh Ketelsen at Snell Orthotics made her a custom bootie and problem solved! She simply wears it during the day and takes it off at night to sleep. She will always need to wear it, so any potential adopters must understand that it is a long term commitment. Otherwise, Girlie Girl is not different than any other dog who likes to play and run. She's an active dog despite what she's been through and isn't impaired at all. She loves other dogs and children, so she would make a great pet for just about anyone. Sweet Girlie is about 2 years old, 50 pounds and fully vetted to include her spay, micrcochip, all vaccinations and is heartworm negative. Her adoption fee is $150. this helps offset some of her medical cost. If interested in adoption, see link below and we will be in touch! http://humanesocietyfaulknerco.wufoo.com/forms/adoption-application/ Email Judi at - rescuethestrays@yahoo.com.

from Voice Media Group / Added

Xander Mozejewski is a Valley kid who had it all: brains, athleticism, California looks. Hired as a model, he soon got behind the camera. Then, in 2011, he was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle to a surf shop. The crash broke his back—he shouldn't have lived. Paralyzed from the waist down, he grew emaciated and fought for his health. He was saved by a tight-knit wheelchair community at CORE, a special gym in Northridge—and by his own bold Millennial outlook. Now Xander blazes a cultural trail through L.A., wheelchair be damned.
