Jo is an employee at a 24/7 Asian food court. On this particular night, while business is slow, he kills time by eating. When a maki he is about to eat warns him about a penguin, he turns slightly paranoid. This is my graduation movie I started at my school (EMCA) and finished as an independent director after my studies. Have some pop-corn and a penguin and... Enjoy ! Nothing like training with the big guys. 'Secret Training Camp', directed by Paranoid US's Thierry Poiraud, brings some serious wildlife to the playing field. The spot, via M&C Saatchi, is a dramatic concept featuring the Australian national soccer team and African animals. Everyone on the shoot would agree, the production was a feature film. Period. Animals were shot in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, on location . From there the crew went to Australia to shoot the athletes in a studio, and finished with post at BUF in Paris, France. Post-production was a two month full-scale effort. With animals, a night time setting, a child actor and soccer celebrities, it was no easy feat to get the final result. In a note of humor, Optus invited French director Thierry Poiraud to a Socceroos match, assuming that since he was European, he would be a huge football fan. However in reality it was his first experience in a soccer stadium! Continuing our “plausible unreality” trend, we created a surfing elephant for ACCENTURE and Director THIERRY POIRAUD. One challenge here was to imbue our “lead” with the physical dynamics of a surfer riding waves without losing his true “elephantine” qualities of heaviness, slowness and movement. Integrating these CG elements into the waves, foam, and spray of the filmed ocean elements required extra care and precision to achieve the reality and relaxed whimsy of this spot. To promote the new mobile phone, LG dLite, Sophie Gateau, of Paranoid US, directed a playful music video to showcase the phones character-based digital display. The video, via DOJO SF, tells a classic love story to the track, “White” by electropop artist, LIGHTS. The campaign features a website, the video, and other interactive elements. Using the LIGHTS’ track as a basis for the pixelated boy meets pixelated girl storyline, Sophie created a 3.5 min animated piece. Sophie utilized her CG and motion graphic background, for the LED narrative. Sophie collaborated with Paranoid Design Studio’s Lead Artist Vincent Rogozyk to first develop the story as an animatic. This solved the production challenge of finding a way to duplicate a few phones to appear as if they were in mass. Utilizing motion control to shoot the available 45 pre-production models , Sophie shot twenty passes--moving the phones along in each pass. The Paranoid Design Studio team then assembled the passes, tracked animated characters and environmental drawings, and composited them into the scenes. The LED look was then finished on Flame by Paranoid Design Studio VFX Artist Seb Caudron. DOJO Executive Creative Directors, Geoff Edwards and Mauro Alencar, share why Sophie was handpicked for the project. "Sophie has a unique way of creating a relationship between the audience and the story. Her work is personal and feels like someone is talking directly to you," said Edwards. "The combination of her willingness to collaborate with us and LIGHTS made Sophie the right choice for this program,” added Alencar. behance.net/gallery/23222767/HYPERJUMP “Hyperjump” Kinetic light sculpture by Tundra collective. First Cadets Corps, St.Petersburg, Russia, December 2014 “Hyperjump” was created as a site-specific work for one of the halls of the former First Cadets Corps, which is now being reconstructed as a study spaces of Saint-Petersburg State University. The nineteenth-century hall has a sports ground with a basketball court , built here in a soviet time. “Hyperjump” explores the idea, set by this paradoxical combination: the basketball court, representing the physicality, we have from the nature, together with the architecture of the classicism period, the symbol of the human rationality. 25 moving head light beams on a truss stands and a powerful sound system were installed along the hall. While the light sculpture started to move, the electronic light devices came to life, turning into the actors themselves, bringing the light, shut in the strict geometry back, to its unpredictable nature.
