"What Can A Parent Do?" is designed to provide knowledge to parents regarding how promoting body image acceptance, self-esteem, and resilience in their child can help prevent the development of eating disorders. The video was developed as part of a Doctoral of Nursing Capstone Project at SUNY Binghamton. This educational tool was pilot tested with parents during well-child visits in a primary care setting. The complete doctoral paper, "Enhancing Parents' Knowledge of Eating Disorders in a Primary Care Setting" can be accessed on-line via ProQuest.

PTO Parent Education presents “Encouraging Grit and Perseverance in our Children.” Research shows that stick-to-itiveness and the ability to bounce back from failure are more accurate predictors of a child’s ability to reach his full potential than intelligence, skill, or even grades. Educator and grit expert Amy Lyon will discuss how parents can help children develop this all-important “grit" factor by nurturing optimism, resilience and goal-setting. Join us!

As part of Fraser Academy's roll-out of a new Executive Function (EF) Curriculum, a parent information night was hosted with EF expert, Dr. Surina Basho. Executive function refers to the ability to plan, organize, strategize, pay attention, remember details, and manage time and space - essential skills for being a strategic lifelong learner. EF skills develop during school years as the frontal lobe and cognitive function develop. Fraser Academy is one of the first schools in North America to implement a strategic Executive Function Curriculum and school culture. As mentioned by Dr. Basho, “Fraser Academy is a model school, at the forefront of education."
