The dance of Zerogrammi is made of small daily gestures, of fine, minimal, invisible, imperfect details revealing, despite their inconsistency, the deepest aspects of the human being. The construction of movement is the result of observation, repetition and distortion, till the threshold of grotesque, of the most fragile, contradictory and absurd human characters: a small twitch, an uncertainty, a distraction are the starting point of an essential and clear narration that subverts the meanings, create unusual points of view and suggest to the audience new logics of thought. Zerogrammi’s dance desires to be direct, poetic, paradoxical at least as much as life is, a crying of happiness and a laugh of pain, as for clowns, characters possible and improbable at the same time. This is the kind of truth that Zerogrammi loves to put on the stage: necessary actions dictated by clear dramatic urgency, in the form of poetry, equally illogical, irregular, yet disciplined and organic. Since its foundation in 2006, Stefano Mazzotta and Emanuele Sciannamea are the choreographers of the company. Their creations are results of international collaborations and multidisciplinary researches that use photography and videos as tools for analysis and documentation, with the aim of transforming the creative process in a moment of experience sharing and language experimentation. Choreographic residencies, training programs, video and photographic projects are the artistic elements that become pages of a journey diary, where the stage performance is only a stop-over. They performed in Italy and abroad and won awards including the Prix Hystrio 2013, the Golden Mask 2012, Vignale Danza Prize 2011, Best Performance Award Giocateatro 2009, Danz’è 2008. Since 2012, Zerogrammi has worked at its new venue in Turin, LUFT, a creative space for production activities, training and artistic residencies. Zerogrammi is supported by the Piedmont Region and the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities.
