Peak Water Awareness, Hydropolitical Activism & Freshwater Scarcity Preparedness The Three Planks of the PeakWaterUS.com Platform )( PEAK OIL IS HERE. Peak Oil is the point where the maximum rate of petroleum extraction is reached and after which oil and gas production begins its terminal decline. "Many people have the impression that falling oil prices mean that the cost of production is falling, and thus that the feared "peak oil" is far in the distance. This is not the correct interpretation, especially when many types of commodities are decreasing in price at the same time. When prices are set in a world market, the big issue is affordability. Even if food, oil and coal are close to necessities, consumers can't pay more than they can afford... Clearly governments will try to prevent another sharp crash in commodity prices. The question is whether they will be successful in propping up commodity prices, and for how long they will be successful. In a finite world, fossil fuel energy production eventually must decline, but we don't know very precisely what timeframe."--Gail Tverberg, Peak Oil Analyst & Actuary )( WE ARE TRADING WATER FOR ENERGY. It takes water to create energy and energy to supply water. As more of one is required for the other, less remains available for other human needs. "Safe, clean natural gas from hydraulic fracturing..." is perhaps the biggest lie sold to the American public in over 11 years. Shale gas fracking poisons about 4.3 gallons of water for every thousand cubic feet. In 2014 the U.S. produced 9.63 trillion cubic feet of shale gas, poisoning more than 41 billion gallons of water - along with any air into which it may have evaporated. And comparing toxic fracking water lost to the natural water cycle to cooling water quickly returned to its source to claim that natural gas power generation "saves water" is paid propaganda put out by puppets of the petroleum industry. )( SCARCITY AMIDST PLENTY. Water covers more than 70% of our planet - but less than 1% of the water on Earth is freshwater available to sustain all human and nonmarine life. In the United States alone, trillions of gallons of freshwater are being contaminated by hydraulic fracturing, agricultural pesticides, pharmaceutical waste and other industrial pollution. And as fracking-accelerated climate change causes sea levels to rise and runoff from melting snowcaps and glaciers to recede, even more our of vital potable drinking water supply is being lost. )( PEAK WATER IS NEAR. Peak Water is the point where demands for safe clean freshwater begin to exceed the combined abilities of nature and man to replenish and supply it. "In many parts of the world, in particular in the dry, mid-latitudes, far more water is used than is available on an annual, renewable basis. Precipitation, snowmelt, and streamflow are no longer enough to supply the multiple, competing demands for society's water needs. Because the gap between supply and demand is routinely bridged with non-renewable groundwater, even more so during drought, groundwater supplies in some major aquifers will be depleted in a matter of decades. The myth of limitless water and the free-for-all mentality that has pervaded groundwater use must now come to an end."--Jay Famiglietti, NASA JPL Senior Water Scientist )( PEAKWATERUS.COM: A HYDROACTIVIST PLATFORM. 97.5% or more of all water on Earth is salt water. Less than 0.75% of the fresh water remaining is accessible to sustain all non-marine life. And as the United States fracks at home and attacks overseas to maximize its share of dwindling fossil fuel supplies, more and more vital potable water is being lost to hydraulic fracturing along with herbicide contamination, industrial pollution and the effects of carbon dioxide and methane-accelerated climate change. Peak Water is the point where our demands for safe clean fresh water begin to exceed the combined abilities of nature and man to replenish and supply it. The term was coined by hydrologists who in 2010 demonstrated that although there is a vast amount of water on Earth, sustainable managed fresh water is becoming scarce. We can't drink oil - and we can't keep sacrificing our drinking water to get oil. History shows we also can't rely on government to protect us from those who would pollute and poison or privatize our water. What we CAN do is take it upon ourselves to make sure we always have access to safe clean potable water for ourselves and those that depend on us. PeakWater U S dot com will provide a platform for that pro activity.
