Brett Clarke is a local custodian of the Gunditjmara and Kirrae Whurrong people in south-west Victoria. In this Water Is story, he reflects on his relationship to the Hopkins River and explains the importance of the local waterways to his ancestors. Brett partakes in the 'Lake Bolac Eel Festival Healing Walk' each year- a journey along the banks of the Hopkins River, from the Hopkins River mouth upstream to Lake Bolac. The walk, which was first initiated by singer-songwriter Neil Murray, re-unites Brett with his country, his people and his culture.
