          • The Marina Experiment

            from Marina Lutz / Added

'The Marina Experiment' is the result of over 10,000 photographs, super 8 home footage and reel to reel audiotape interrogations that director Marina Lutz's father made of her during her upper class upbringing in 1960s and 1970s Manhattan. A both eerie and infinitely fascinating archive that she herself has now sorted out and reassembled. Her father's transgressive voyeurism is turned against himself, while a courageous self portrait simultaneously grows out of the almost incestuously intimate 'home movies'. The result is a family exposé that can't be shaken off that easily, and which in an intelligent and absolutely unique way raises the question about the right to not be seen - a question that has become even more relevant in the present day. THE MARINA EXPERIMENT (2009, 18 Minutes, original music by Mick Harvey)

                24 Plays / / 0 Comments

Dislocated explores the viewer as a digital voyeur who lives in both the digital and physical world. The screen becomes the viewfinder into the lives of others and significantly blurs the line between private and public space within the digital world. Each image has been re-appropriated from a screen capture via Google street maps and is set within a real home to emulate the reality of its space. The nocturnal images have been composed as a voyeur looking into a suburban home, an archetype of private space. The moving images have been created from commercials ranging from five to ten seconds in length, and have been re-appropriated with lighting of a home interior. While this world resembles our physical reality, the viewer gains a sense of urgency and desensitizes the perversion of being a “stalker," where we view the private lives of others without them knowing and continue to feed off of by over-sharing through social media accounts. The dystopia within the physical world is then masked and transformed into a utopian world of digital media where the digital voyeur ultimately becomes empathetic to surveillance inhabiting with isolation.

A la base, le prétexte d'un défi forum (réaliser un film pour le forum vidéo qui a lieu un mois plus tard) sur le thème 'Do you have the shine ?'
