      • Mud Bath for Thick Skin, Miru Kim, Łódź Biennale 2010

For photos and more videos please visit http://www.mirukim.com/ On the recommendation of Richard Vine (Art in America), I was invited to participate in the Fokus Łódź Biennale 2010 (September 11–October 10) in Łódź, Poland. More than fifty artists around the world were invited to create works along Piotrkowska Street, the main commercial street considered to be the longest boulevard in Europe. One of the main venues along the street was an abandoned concert hall, with a main stage area and many rooms where artists created site-specific installations. In that building I discovered a basement, and staged a performance piece for the opening day of the Biennale. I named it The Mudbath for Thick Skin. The original idea was to do the piece much longer than 6 hours, but the basement was extremely cold, so the physical challenge, which was much beyond the mental one, became a time limitation for health reasons. The mud in the performance was taken from one of smaller local farms, which are now becoming obsolete due to large industrial farms. One could only watch the performance through a peephole on a wooden door that was bolted shut. The main part of my work at the Biennale was a public installation on Piotrkowska Street, on the corner of the very busy intersection with Zielona Street. An image from the series "The Pig That Therefore I Am" was mounted on a commercial lightbox display of 3.75 meters by 2.5 meters. 08:59

                    from M Kent / Added

The X-plicit Players "workshop" a new piece, "Dreamtime Body", at The Chateau in Berkeley, March 1994. Really out-of-the-blue we received an invitation from Dave Nadel to perform in his club, Ashkenaz. He wanted to host a benefit for the legal fees in our attempt to overturn the recently-passed Berkeley anti-nudity ordinance. Ashkenaz is a big venue, so, we thought, why not come up with some ambitious new material? We'd been studying the Australian "aborigine" idea of the ancestors "singing the world into existence", making the path by dancing the path, along with our didjeridu practices. We feel "The Creation" as something ongoing, not something in the past. We dreamed up the idea of a ritual enactment of bringing the human body into existence, bringing our own bodies mutually into existence. That's a giant domain, so we just create a few scenes: flying through the Empty Gray Realm - the Lake of Flesh - constituting the Channels of Blood and Chi. And we wanted to work with some of our dream notes, providing fresh, anti-formulaic stories. Meanwhile our friend Andrew Martinez wanted us to do a performance at Chateau, the student co-op where he was living. So we decided to try some early versions of our new material there. Our usual live voice and electronics is augmented with the didjeridus (no guitars at this event), and also dropped to quiet while people listen into each others hearts and bellies. Ssshhh! Enjoy! Our friends at AXN approached us for the second time to create the promo for their upcoming TV-series season, both for Spain and Portugal. Needless to say we were very excited. Last time we worked together we had such a great time, not to mention the success we shared by winning both a silver and a bronze at the New York Festivals 2013. This year AXN wanted to do something completely different as far as TV promos go, joining aspects from both the digital and analog world which is something we clearly love to do. Binary, analogue: binalogue – get it? Based on their idea, we co-directed, art directed, produced, designed and animated these promos that fuse live action, choreography, performance, live lighting, video mapping as well as multiple compositing and VFX techniques . The end result was nothing short of spectacular – and alongside the skilful and experienced team from AXN we experienced a great ride while creating these striking pieces to promote their season. The making of The process – which involved everything from rehearsals and creating a choreography through to the creation of storyboards, motion graphics, 3D and fluid simulations – was elaborate, stimulating, educational and above all – a truckload of fun! https://vimeo.com/112422845 Project info Client: AXN - Sony Pictures Television - http://www.axn.es Production Company: Binalogue - http://www.binalogue.com Our role Co-concept development, Co-direction, Art direction, Technical direction, Design, 3D, Motion graphics, VFX, Compositing & Finishing Credits AXN Creative manager: David Giménez AXN Writer/producer: David Giménez AXN Production coordinator: Elena Muñoz AXN Production manager: Noelia Alonso AXN Assistant director: Rubén Sánchez AXN Sound mixer: Claudio Recuero Concept development: AXN & Binalogue Direction: David Giménez & David Carrizales Art direction: David Carrizales Direction of photography: Tommie Ferreras Choreography: Fonty (https://www.facebook.com/gblbrtl.fontinejose/), David Giménez Teira, David Carrizales & Alejandro de Los Ríos Talent: Fonty - https://www.facebook.com/gblbrtl.fontinejose/ Producer: Gloria Inglis Technical supervision: Luis de La Barrera - Montenegro, Alejandro de Los Ríos & David Carrizales Concept art & design: Samuel Alegre, Álvaro Bernis & Jorge Artola Lead 3D artist: Luis de La Barrera - Montenegro 3D artists: Luis de La Barrera - Montenegro, Alejandro de Los Ríos, Luis Manuel Hidalgo, Álvaro Bernis & Juan de La Peña Lead compositing artist: David Carrizales Motion graphics, VFX & compositing: David Carrizales, Samuel Alegre, Fumiaki Kobayashi Storyboarding: Álvaro Bernis, Fumiaki Kobayashi & Juan de La Peña Still photography: Judith Sansó - http://www.judithsanso.com View project http://bit.ly/axn2014 Behance project https://be.net/gallery/21378537/AXN-Promo-2014-2015 Follow us http://facebook.com/binalogue http://twitter.com/binalogue http://behance.net/binalogue ©2014 Binalogue http://binalogue.com

                      Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
