A video about our trip to Peru. As Jose Tito says in the beginning, Peru is divided in three regions: the highlands, the jungle and the ocean, but unfortunately we only had two weeks to wander around and in order to do it properly, we had to leave the ocean portion off (not a big deal, after all I live by the ocean for 10 years now). We started our trip in Cusco City, walking as much as we could to get used to exercising in altitude. After that, we took an almost 70Km hike through the Salkantay pass (4600m high) and down to the jungle, where we would finally get to see the city of the Inca: Machupicchu! One of the best trips of my life, with amazing food, amazing company, amazing people and breath taking landscape. Totally recommended. If you are up for the challenge, look for the Llama Path agency... they were just great! Disclaimer - I'm more of a music fan than a musician. I do not own the rights to this song. The purpose of this video is strictly for personal use. Shot with a Canon Rebel t5i.

Benny Oliver Humphries Jr. is the pastor of Iglesia Exodo in Tarapoto, Peru. The church’s address is: Jr. Jorge Chavez Nro. 255 Tarapoto, San Martin, Peru He is also the owner of a small, hot sauce company registered to the same address. The company’s Peruvian telephone number is listed as: 043-53-0770. I met “pastor” Benny Oliver Humphries Jr. while living in Tarapoto, Peru in 2014. During my first interaction with him he started asking me in an aggressive tone, “Why are you in Tarapoto?! What are you doing here?!” When I tried to ask him the same questions, he gruffly retorted, “This is your interrogation! I’m asking the questions here.” Later, during our first interaction, he admitted to me that he was a pastor of a local church called Iglesia Exodo in Tarapoto, which surprised me after witnessing his rude behavior. Nonetheless, he invited me to attend his church, so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. The first time attending his church I arrived with my wife and sat with her in one of the back rows of the church. The service was interesting, complete with flag dancing performances. 16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. The second time visiting his church, there was a moment when Benny invited churchgoers to the front of the congregation to receive “Christ’s blessing.” The first participants had their ears whispered into by Benny and then they fell backwards as if fainting. One woman fell to the floor and then started to have strong, full-body convulsions. This scared me. Soon, Benny had specifically signaled for my wife to come to the front of the room. Benny spent extra time whispering in her ear, while I noticed that Benny kept making eye contact with me from across the room. My wife did not fall down after receiving his whispers. When she returned to her seat next to me, she informed me that Benny had whispered into her ear that in order to have a closer relationship to Christ then she must renounce me. I never expected a pastor to tell someone they need to abandon a person they love in order to be closer to Christ. We left the church immediately and never went back. Five months later, on August 29, 2014 my wife and I went to an annual dinner party for the company she worked for. We had a meal with about 20 of my wife’s coworkers at a local restaurant in Tarapoto. Upon entering the restaurant we saw Benny sitting at a table with a couple other Americans. My wife and I noticed that the table was littered with bottles of beer, so we tried to pass by Benny unnoticed, fearing any sort of drunken behavior. Nonetheless, as soon as Benny saw me he started shouting, “Hey Dickface! Hey Dickface! Hey Dickface!” My wife and I ignored him and situated ourselves amongst her coworkers at a separate table towards the end of the restaurant. The following video shows what happened while waiting for our meal that night. Benny approached our table and immediately proceeded to maliciously insult me and threaten me with physical violence in front of my wife and 20 of her coworkers. (22:28:57) Benny: I’ve never seen such a pussy in my life! (22:29:00) Me: What’s your problem, dude? (22:29:01) Benny: You’re a pussy wimp – is what you are. (22:29:03) Me: What am I? (22:29:04) Benny: Stand up and come over here. (22:29:06) Me (standing): What am I?! (22:29:06) Benny: You’re a pussy wimp! (22:29:08) Me: I’m a “pussy wimp”? (22:29:09) Benny: Yeah, that’s what you are. (22:29:10) Me: How…How would you say that in Spanish? Huh? (22:29:13) Benny: I don’t know (incomprehensible)…say it in another language. (22:29:15) Me: And, and why would you call me that?...You’re a pastor of a church for crying out loud…And you call me that?! (22:29:21) Benny: You walk over here… (22:29:23) Me (interrupting): Do you think God approves of your behavior? (22:29:24) Benny: …I drop you. (22:29:26) Me: Why? (22:29:27) Benny: Sit down. (22:29:28) Me: What did I do? …Huh?...Yeah. (22:29:32) Benny: (Incomprehensible)…When you want to make things right, come talk to me. Until then you’re a pussy ass. from Adam Spencer / Added

Edgar Sermeño Durand was hiking through the pristine jungles of his native Perú - when a group of indigenous people captured him and his friend. He soon learned their hostility towards outsiders stemmed from their ongoing battle against illegal loggers, who have in the past sent hired killers to force them from their lands to cut down large and valuable trees. Edgar soon convinced the Hawai Nuevo Amanecer community to trust him, and he began learning about their culture and history - and discovering for himself just how dangerous their enemy can be. The courage of the Ashaninka leader Mauro Pio Peño and all the people of the community is an inspiration to all who stand up against injustice. • Sustainable access to water: the ancient ‘Mamanteo’ system in Peru

Although buoyant economic growth in Peru has generated positive macro-economic figures, this evolution has largely bypassed the remote communities in the Andes, where poverty pockets are widely present. Huamantanga is an example of such a poverty pocket. The main productive activities in Huamantanga are agriculture and cattle-raising for cheese production. The community confirms that these activities are limited because of the lack of water. This is the reason that, in the past, people living in the area developed practices of water infiltration enhancement in the rainy season to improve their water availability, in the springs, during the dry season. These practices are called mamanteo or amunas, and, until today, they are very poorly studied. The Huamantanga communities are under severe pressure to implement land conservation practices, not only to improve their own livelihoods but also to safeguard ecosystem services for downstream users. The tropical Andes more generally are therefore also an important test-bed for payment for ecosystem services models.
