    • Alpha Psi: The Philanthropy

from Alpha Psi Rodeo Added 3,029 0 0

The Alpha Psi Round-Up is the single largest fundraising event conducted by the students of Auburn University. In 1965, the men of Alpha Psi at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine started the Alpha Psi Round-Up. The Round-Up began as an event held exclusively for veterinary students. Students would get together each spring to compete in an amateur rodeo as a way to relieve stress generated by the demands of the veterinary curriculum. As the event gained popularity, it was opened to Auburn students and individuals not affiliated with the school. Greek organizations were invited to join and events were created specifically to include Auburn University’s fraternities and sororities. Initially, Round-Up was held at the Auburn University Block and Bridle Arena. The arena was located across Wire Road from the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Block and Bridle Arena continued to host Round-Up for nearly the next 20 years. Following the 1982 Alpha Psi Round-Up, Auburn University informed Theta Chapter they could no longer use the Block and Bridle Arena. The brothers of Theta Chapter, with assistance and kindness of Mr. Gene Conway, constructed the arena at Conway Acres. The 18th annual Round-Up was held there on April 23, 1983. As interest expanded and attendance increased, the Round-Up was eventually moved to its current location on Sandhill Road. The Alpha Psi Round-Up has recently come to be known as the Alpha Psi Rodeo. The day’s events are now followed by a concert in the evening, with past acts including Cross Canadian Ragweed, Blackberry Smoke, John Anderson, and Blake Shelton. With attendance now topping 15,000 people per year, Rodeo is one of, if not the most popular, events in Auburn, Alabama. Revenue generated from ticket sales is donated to local organizations and charities.
