                    Matinicus Island is twenty miles off the coast of Maine. Right now they run diesel engines to power the micro grid for their island which puts them in the highest cost category for electricity in the U.S. They are updating their generators, exploring adding a battery bank, and renewable energy to reduce their electricity costs while maintaining a reliable and rugged system which they can service themselves. I followed The Power Company of Washington Maine, which does research and development for community renewable energy projects and the inverter manufacturer Princeton Power Systems to the island for their first meeting.
