"I'd rather be imprisoned for three years than stay a year on board. This is hell, not the heaven that they lured me in with.""What can I do? I owe them now, so I must stay here, but I would rather escape. "These are just a few quotes from Tai Yai (an ethnic group in Thailand and Myanmar), Burmese and Laotian victims who were rescued from human trafficking and forced labour, words that have spurred various groups to spring into action to raise awareness and understanding of this important issue. As part of a rarely seen, in-depth look into the severity of the human trafficking problem in Thailand and abroad (namely Indonesia), a talk and photo exhibition will be held in conjunction with the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. The talk will be held at 3.00 pm and the photo exhibition held at 7 pm. (LPN) and (AAT), both members of the Anti-Trafficking Network (ATN) in Thailand, have played important roles in the rescue operations, and has joined hands with private organisations, academic institutions, and professional photographer Sittichai Jittatad, to document the rescue of human trafficking victims. As Thailand comes under ever greater international scrutiny for its anti-human trafficking efforts, earning the lowest grade (Tier 3) from the US for its policies and practices, join us as we shed light on this important issue.
