Canon is showing the new C100 Mark II cinema camera for the first time at PhotoPlus Expo in New York City. They have put the viewfinder from the C500 on it, added face-tracking autofocus, changed the LCD screen so it pivots around and can be viewed from in front of the lens or from the side, changed the processor so images are cleaner in the dark (up to 100K iso,) added a mic to the body so you can record a scratch track without the top handle, and you can now capture HD on one card while recording down-rez'd MP4's on the other. Canon USA's Chuck Westfall talks about the update with Newsshooter Oct. 30, 2014.

Drew Janes and Seth Compton from Defy gimbal were rocketing around the floor of PhotoPlus Expo in New York like a couple of caffeinated ninjas, flying a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera on their G2 brushless 3-axis gimbal, which is now shipping from the Arizona company. Also shipping is the G5, for DSLR cameras. Chuck Fadely from NewsShooter.com stopped them just long enough to get a few words from them.

Sigma announced their new 24-105mm F4 DG (OS)* HSM | Art lens for PhotoPlus. It promises less falloff than similar competing lenses on full-frame cameras. The lens mounts can be changed by the factory if you switch cameras. But for video shooters, it doesn't hold focus through the zoom range. Sigma set pricing after this was filmed at $899. We also get a look at the 18-35mm f/1.8.

ProMediaGear.com has innovative combination curved and straight sliders (made in Chicago) from solid blocks of aluminum. The PMG-DUO sliders come in a variety of lengths. They have a straight track on one side and a curved track on the other. They're very solid and strong since they're machined from one solid block. The company is adding a friction motor drive, which will do video and time lapse on any of their sliders for an additional $500. The motor drive is quiet and can be set up on the curved track to do looping slides for an interview. The reverse point when looping will probably not be usable footage, as it comes to an abrupt stop before reversing. But along the length of the track, it will provide smooth and usable one-man-band interview footage with motion. Sliders come in 24, 32, 36, and 48-inch lengths with varying radius curves. Prices for the slider range from $525 to $770. So you could put together a motorized interview slider for around $1100.

                  from Orlando Benedicto / Added

Testing the new Zeiss Otus 55mm F1.4 vs the Zeiss CP2 50mm T1.5 at Photoplus Expo. They are both $4000, and are very different in size. I like the Otus much more, it has better bokeh and separation of the subject versus the CP2. The CP2 has more circular bokeh and has a very long focus throw.
