1. PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet

from Center For Rights Added 5.3M 8,090 0

Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! - thecenterforrights.org/pipa PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity". The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites-- they just have to convince a judge that the site is "dedicated to copyright infringement." The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that's for a fix that won't work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

THE PIRATE CINEMA TRANSFORMS FILM TORRENTS INTO ILLICIT INTERACTIVE ART A CINEMATIC COLLAGE GENERATED BY PEER-TO-PEER NETWORK USERS. > More info: http://thepiratecinema.com - In the context of omnipresent telecommunications surveillance, “The Pirate Cinema” reveals the hidden activity and geography of Peer-to-Peer file sharing. The project is presented as a monitoring room, which shows Peer-to-Peer transfers happening in real time on networks using the BitTorrent protocol. The installation produces an arbitrary cut-up of the files currently being exchanged. User IP addresses and countries are displayed on each cut, depicting the global topology of content consumption and dissemination. - Conception: Nicolas Maigret - 2012-2013 Software development: Brendan Howell Production: ArtKillArt, La Maison populaire - More info: http://thepiratecinema.com More IMG: http://www.flickr.com/photos/n1c0la5ma1gr3t/sets/72157633577769570/

        • Protect IP Act Breaks the Internet

          from Kirby Ferguson Added 46K 498 26

When I found out Fight for the Future needed help with their campaign against a new bill called PROTECT-IP, I had to take a little time away from Everything is a Remix Part 4 and produce the video above. PROTECT-IP is the latest piece of legislation aiming to chip away at your online rights in the name of protecting the entertainment industry's business model. It's legislation that won't work, will give us yet more lawsuits, and will make the net worse. Whether you lean right and hate business regulation, lean left and hate censorship, or lean neither way but hate useless legislation, PROTECT-IP is a bill everyone should oppose. I encourage you to head over to Fight For the Future and contact congress. http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa
