For nearly 30 years, the PKD Foundation has invested in research leading to new discoveries about polycystic kidney disease. We’re not about to stop. Not when we’re this close to a treatment. Our focus is Accelerating Treatments to Patients – and key component of this initiative is drug repurposing. This means we will explore compounds originally created to treat other conditions, and see if we can repurpose them to stop or slow PKD. We truly believe this will get us closer to a treatment sooner – and current science and research supports this. But we need your help. Learn more at www.pkdcure.org/Research/WithinReach.aspx.

Thanks to everyone who brought their kids out to the Central Ohio Walk for PKD this year. The 'Penny Kid's Dash' is one of my favorite parts of the Central Ohio Walk for PKD each year (and a great way to teach kids at an early age fundraising). - Christopher www.pkdcure.org/centralohiochapter www.walkforpkd.org/centralohio www.twitter.com/pkdcentralohio

It was a beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio for the 2013 Central Ohio Walk for PKD. We have raised to date, over $13,400 and had a great turnout to thank our Chapter Coordinator for the past 7 years, Jared Cunningham and welcome new Chapter Coordinator, Mara Weber. Jared is stepping down to focus on his own health and issues with polycystic kidney disease. If you have not had a chance to make a donation yet, you can still support the Walk for PKD by making a donation through December 31! The Walk for PKD signifies a united group, moving towards treatments and a cure for polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Central Ohio is just one of over 50 walks that take place across the country. 2013 Central Ohio Walk for PKD: Walk Coordinators: Jared Cunningham and Randy Sinai www.walkforpkd.org/centralohio

In just eight short years, the Walk for PKD has become the signature event for funding programs of research, advocacy, education, support and awareness for polycystic kidney disease. Though the fundraising is truly impressive -- more than $12 million in eight years - we have just begun to scratch the surface. LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP: www.pkdcure.org/centralohiowalk

Today will be an amazing day in central Ohio for organ and tissue donation education and advocacy. Unfortunately, though feeling better, Teresa is not able to join us this evening for the Candlelight Vigil. "Hope, Remembrance and Celebration" and endless thanks to everyone for your prayers, support and love. Please continue to share Teresa's story. We WILL find the blood type 'O' living donor so she can continue to be closer to fine, with us.

Jared Cunningham: "I would have never imagined coming to a point in my life where I would be sending this request. However, this isn't about me. A close family friend of mine grew up with diabetes which ultimately led to her needing and receiving a double-organ kidney-pancreas transplant 21 years ago. She is now 49 and finding out that her transplanted kidney is failing. She is on the organ list, but time is quickly running out. Her family has stepped up to the plate but have come back incompatible for kidney donation. Where does this leave her now? Scared, but hopeful and loved. She has asked me to send this message to everyone I could possibly email and request that you forward this email to your entire address book as well in hopes that if enough people read or hear about this request, somewhere, someone may feel lead to step up and donate the gift of Life." Teresa’s own battles with organ transplantation have led her to become an active volunteer with Lifeline of Ohio as well as the Central Ohio Chapter of the Polycystic Kidney Disease foundation. She’s outspoken about the importance of being an organ donor, and is a living testament to what can happen when someone gives the gift of life.
