Here is a quick video to show some of the steps we will take while prepping our cameras for a shoot. Some type of camera prep is fairly standard in the film business. In most cases a camera assistant will be paid a full day’s rate for the prep. There is no such thing as a half day, remember that. A camera prep can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks depending on the gig. We wanted to show you very quickly a few things we will always check before any shoot. We will always check the sensor and spin the camera. We will always check the electronics on all of the accessories and the camera. We will also make sure that everything is physically in the case or bag. We will always test and charge up all of our batteries. No matter how small the gig. Battery maintenance is very important. We will also test all of our sound equipment. This is not the only way to prep, or the only tests to perform. Just a quick take on how we prep for a shoot.

You may have a hard time hearing some of the subtle sound design just listening through your laptop speakers. We recommend listening with headphones or a good audio system. http://planet5d.com/incident The film was co-sponsored by Singular Software, Canonrumors.com and Kessler Cranes.

Brian Valente from Redrock Micro showed off their new wireless follow focus and electronic viewfinder at Createasphere Expo 2010. The EVF works just great and the follow focus is very responsive. The real question here is when are we going to get it. Next year I'm afraid. It was nice to see a real working prototype. Finally a proper viewfinder for HDSLR work, time willing.

Here is a Quick Take on the brand new Monitor X HDSLR Viewfinder from JAG35. The Monitor X is a great alternative to the standard loupe type viewfinder. It will work with glasses and can also be used as a two-eye viewfinder. The Monitor X can be seen from a few feet away without distortion. This makes it a great tool for both the camera operator and a director or client to view the image while shooting. The frame for the Monitor X attaches to the LCD screen on the back of the camera. The loupe mounts to the frame easily and can be removed quickly. If you wear glasses or prefer to use both eyes while shooting video, this is a great solution. The JAG35 Monitor X HDSLR Viewfinder retails for $159.00 US.

Here is the super comfy Vocas HDSLR Shoulder rig. We beat this thing senseless in the hot desert of Arizona and it kicked ass and took names. We really love it and hated to have to give it back. At $3500 it's not cheap but well worth the coin. Music: Kevin Macleoud
