Why are the ancient mosaics so compelling? Why are we so attracted to intricate designs and patterns? In this fascinating journey, Lillian explains the mosaic’s symbolism and construction and introduces her revolutionary research that the flat pavement was imagined as a three-dimensional sphere. Join Lillian as she decodes the underlying mysteries of this spectacular 1700 year-old Roman pavement excavated in Lod, Israel. So get comfortable and prepare to be inspired! My first excursion into layering. Of course this meant having to render two videos, and at ten minutes apiece, this involved a lot of computer power. The idea was to create a very soothing if not hypnotic atmosphere to suit the music. I used Mandelbulb 3D for the fractal rendering plus AviSynth/Virtual Dub for the post-processing. Music available at: https://lamarckia.bandcamp.com/track/a-wider-sky

This was meant to be the HD version of my last video 'A Wider Sky', but got quite a few tweaks on the way. The music is still the same, however. Available at: https://lamarckia.bandcamp.com/track/a-wider-sky I had to reduce the size to upload to Vimeo, but a 720p version is available at http://youtu.be/0aPXMxCNqd0

Attica 22 b: A film by Nicholas Mortimer // Katharina 22 b: Music by Petrels Occupying a domestic void, a workshop or retreat is exposed - a secret space housing a private endeavour. Through the evidence of an absent character the film examines a child hood fantasy made real, illustrating astronomical measurement or an environment for fictional celestial navigation. Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
