This is the Animatic we presented to NOAA after the storyboard was approved. It was a great opportunity to test the timing and flow of the piece, as well as to get some input from our client early on.

For Gods, Heroes, and Monsters we were reading Martín and Meditations on the South Valley by Jimmy Santiago Baca. We were considering the Hero's Journey. I noticed that the previous owner of my copy of the book had spilled a bit of coffee on some of the pages. While reading the book, I would return back to those pages, flipping them with my thumb like a flip-book animation. The stain would grow and recede. I decided that I would experiment with this idea of animating. I used Coffee and Ink to create abstract growing and shrinking shapes. Here's a process shot: http://instagram.com/p/lVXFwlRhQo/ The piece is meant to consider the progression of the Hero's Journey, starting slow and simple and growing in complexity as trials come and go finally ending with revelation and, shortly after, death.
