Once again, we have been chasing Northern lights in Scandinavia. The resulting short film shows various sorts of lights in the arctic night: (Artificial) lights from Tromso and its surroundings as well as northern lights captured in the area of Kilpisjärvi (Northern Finland). The film is made from various types of footage: (1) Video footage direct out of the camera (only one sequence), (2) raw video footage with Magic Lantern at 1 resp. 2 frames per second and (3) classical time lapse sequences made from raw photo stills. The camera is a Canon 5D Mk III with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and a Samyang 85mm f/1.4. The footage was processed and graded with After Effects and edited in Premiere. The music was purchased from Audiojungle.

Filming lasted from November 2014 to January 2015. It was filmed on 22 locations. Some of them were not included in the final work. Some locations had to shoot 5-6 times, until it reaches the desired result. In the last days of shooting was -20 degrees Celsius, which complicates the process and create a beautiful picture. Captured more than 20,000 images. But as a result used about 6000. The overall process time from beginning to end of 250 hours. Well since the sun has been quiet lately and the nights have begun to get longer, I decided to release another feature HD Aurora video to hold all you Aurora Junkies over for a while. This one is called "Flight of the Aurora" and the footage was captured on June 8, 2014. Forced to drive to get out from under the cloud cover, I ended up in a part of the province I have not spent a lot of time imaging the Aurora in. I was extremely lucky to have made it to clear sky just as the show really began and that I stumbled on this fantastic location.

Found a little bit of Aurora on Feb 8/9, 2014. There was a very subdued show. Conditions on Friday were blowing snow, -22 deg C with a 15 km/h wind from the north. I thought that was pretty cold until I headed out again on Saturday night when it was crystal clear and - 32 C with a 10 km/h wind from the south. COLD! A great show even though conditions were not ideal. Enjoy and please share if you like it! www.InFocusImagery.com
