In 2006, I had the privilege to co-direct this life changing film with Nicholas Bruckman and Jesse Thomas. After a year long shoot that led me from San Francisco, to Bolivia, Tijuana, and eventually back to New York City, we started the 2 year process of post-production. We all wore many hats during the entirety of the process, making this film a highly personal triumph for each one of us. I am extremely proud of this film, and the continued impact it has across the globe. A timely documentary… Takes an intensely personal look at U.S. immigration policy, focusing on the experiences of one woman to convey both the aspirations and hardships of undocumented workers.” - Video Librarian “La Americana draws a bead on the brutal effect U.S. immigration policy has on families… A compelling and intimate portrait of a heart-wrenching case. This video is a needed document for the debate… Highly recommended for all academic and public libraries with representation of Latin American studies, immigration studies, human rights, international relations, and U.S. domestic policy.” - Educational Media Reviews Online "Refreshing, ambitious, and important." - Caitlin Graham, The Feminist Review "Devastating. pan SRUC seminar by Dr Sarah Skerratt, SRUC on 4th of September 2014. The Land Economy, Environment and Society Research Group (LEES) is made up of about 26 researchers and approximately 12 PhD students. Although some of you know LEES people well, this seminar gives a chance to find out a bit more about “Who’s Who and What We Do” in the Group, so you know who to contact and discuss ideas with. We deliver research, consultancy and teaching, very often in partnership with colleagues in SRUC and externally – so this seminar is also a chance for you (across Divisions and campuses) to tell me more about what you do, so we can be thinking about that when putting our bids and other work together. SRUC’s Rural Policy Centre (RPC) also sits within LEES, although the RPC operates across the whole organisation. So I’ll be filling you in on what the RPC does and who the main people are – from Education, Consulting and Research – plus again it’ll be your opportunity to pitch in ideas and thoughts as to what the RPC could be doing and how you could input.
