Surfers Against Sewage’s (SAS) new campaign Protect Our Waves (POW) had it’s first action today, The Gathering, a mass paddle out, in association with local campaign group Access BroadBench Association (ABBA). Over 350 surfers from across the nation joined SAS and ABBA and paddled out at Kimmeridge Bay on International Surfing Day. The action called on the Secretary of State for Defence to allow surfers’ access to Broadbench, a special wave found on the outer boundary of a Ministry of Defence (MoD) firing range. Broadbench is a quality wave in Kimmeridge Bay, described by many as one of Britain’s best. Unfortunately it falls right on the outer boundary of a MoD firing range. SAS are not asking the MoD to reduce their use of this important firing range. However, SAS believe there is a compromise that will ensure surfers and waveriders can have 100% access to Broadbench without impacting on the MoD’s full use of the firing range. We are calling on the Secretary of State for Defence to implement SAS’s compromise, changing where the MoD currently fire from. This will in turn change the direction of the MoD’s firing and could leave Broadbench outside the boundary of the firing range. It will not impact on the MoD’s use of the firing range, leaving surfers and waveriders with 100% access to Broadbench and the MoD full use of their range. International Surfing Day (ISD), sees surfing events taking place all over the world. There will be events in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia but nothing like the Gathering. SAS expect the Gathering to be the best-supported event with over 350 surfers and supporter actively participating at the paddle out protest on ISD. For more information visit http://www.sas.org.uk

a salute to the national erection is performative street intervention created by liad hussein kantorowicz and executed by the tel aviv queer community in tel aviv on june 2007. the performance action initially took place as a part of a week-long event commemorating 40 years to the israeli occupation of the palestinian territories of west bank and gaza in 1967. due to its widespread success, the action was repeated twice more until finally the phallus, which was seen as a threat, was captured, dismembered and confiscated by the israeli police. video editing - mit'an.

Solutions Series 350.org Organizers: Phil Aroneanu, Will Bates, Kelly Blynn, May Boeve, Jamie Henn, Bill McKibben, Jeremy Osborn, Jon Warnow Getting to 350: What's Next for the Climate Movement? University of Vermont February 16, 2010 October 24th, 2009 was called "the most widespread day of political action in the planet's history," with more than 5200 events in 181 countries. Through these and related events, citizens from all over the world increased pressure on world leaders to adopt a fair, ambitious, and binding treaty, the kind of treaty that the latest science demands. As this new decade gets underway, movement leaders are reflecting on what has worked and what should come next. In this talk, the founders of 350.org will briefly review their involvement in the climate movement over the last five years and then lead a round-table discussion with the theme: "What next?" Phil Aroneanu, Will Bates, Kelly Blynn, May Boeve, Jamie Henn, Bill McKibben, Jeremy Osborn, Jon Warnow are the co-founders and leaders of 350.org, which helped coordinate the International Day of Climate Action on October 24, 2009. They were also the co-founders of Step It Up, which helped coordinate two majors days of action in the United States and successfully forced elected officials to embrace the target of 80% reductions of US emissions by 2050. Bill McKibben, a scholar-in-residence at Middlebury College, is the author of the forthcoming Eaarth: Making a Life on a Tough New Planet. Aroneanu, Bates, Blynn, Boeve, Henn, Osborn, and Warnow are Middlebury College graduates and the recipients of many honors for their national and global leadership. With Bill McKibben, they co-authored Fight Global Warming: The Handbook for Taking Action in Your Community (Holt Paperbacks, 2007).
