So when the opportunity arose to make a music video for Swimming, I grabbed it with both hands. This was a chance to work with a group of like minded artists - musicians who think progressively and see their band as an art form itself, not just a means of making music. I had recently written a short film script called The Last Human. The narrative follows the fate last human being left alive - a concept that I have had a long standing fascination with - and their mission to implant DNA on a strange world in an attempt to begin new life in the universe. When I listened to the song I Do (Come True) I immediately felt a connection between the music and the story I had written. The song has an ethereal quality and a chorus riff that descends into minor chords, taking the listener down into a place of profound meaning. It was that musical connection that made me want to turn the short film into the music video for the song. As we explored the idea we decided on making two versions of the film. The first would be the music video and the second would be a longer short film edit with natural and elaborate sound design and which uses elements of the song as the basis of the film's score. Further ideas came through as we went into pre production, the concept had such narrative scope that it felt natural to explore the back story and so we are now utilising various platforms for the transmedia storyline which will allow people to explore the world that has been created via online and mobile. In the music video the viewer will see the word HERA appear quite often. This is the title of the mission in the story and is named after the Greek Goddess of childbirth but also has a double meaning - it is an acronym for the mysterious Human Evolution Recovery Administration. This organisation will form the backbone of the fictional narrative in the story but will cross over into a real world exercise in disinformation and transmedia storytelling. This is the cover art shoot for Nottingham's Arts and Culture magazine, LeftLion issue #46. Shot on location in Nottingham. The cover art is painted by graffiti artist, Dilk. We wanted to make a film that shows an artist and craftsman at work rather than just document the process of painting a mural. We concentrated on the details - little things that an artist does to make their work their own. We also wanted to create a film that works as a piece of art in its own right. The music is a bespoke commission for this film and is by Alex Herington, aka Ultrastate. Test shots and art prep for the promo for 'The Anchors In Your Heart' by WSUOR. In this video we created a huge 8 foot creature. The creature has interchangeable faces to convey its emotions and long spiky bamboo fingers inspired by Papua New Guinea witch doctor traditional dress. The creature construction was done in 2-3 days and was done using loads of styrofoam/insulation foam covered in papier mache. High tech!

Test shots and art prep for the promo for I'll Be A Ghost by We Show Up On Radar. This short film shows the mad day of art prep for the shoot which was only days away. In all we had to create a wasp puppet, 3 animal masks and 5 cocoon shaped willow lanterns. This film doesn't show the shadow puppets that were made for the animation or indeed the animation process which was a delight!

WINNER, BEST FREEFALL, LIMELIGHT AWARDS 2012 OFFICIAL SELECTION, CRYSTAL PALACE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2011 OFFICIAL SELECTION, BRITISH SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL, BERLIN 2012 From director Tom Walsh and narrated by Bernard Hill (Titanic, The Lord Of The Rings), The Wraith tells the story of a young woman trapped in limbo between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Her only comforts come in the form of a ritual, bereft of meaning, and her dreams where she collects artifacts so she can construct puppet-like companions in her waking realm. A beautiful score and poetic narration accompany this melancholy tale of longing and the search for forgiveness. The Wraith takes the audience through our world and into the next where dreams are reality and reality is a distant memory.
