*This film is original raw footage and not intended for commercial or profit* My great-grandfather had one of the early consumer 16mm camera's... the Cine Kodak from the 1930's. The film itself, though scratched is in amazing condition. Notice the incredible color of the Kodachrome. Absolutely pristine and sharp. This film was transferred back in 2009 by Spectra Film and Video. The more recent footage of my grandparents was shot on Super 8mm on a Canon 814 Velvia 50D in 2006. This footage was all shot in and around Portland in the 1930's and 40's. My grandparents grew up off MLK Blvd.

First off I'd like to say how much of a pleasure it is to work with Ryan Tuerck. He is a professional, talented and dedicated young man. Second, the inspiration for this video came from a music video I recently saw online from the artist Sapient. He is a local musician from the Portland area were I live, and I have been bumping his stuff for years since his days in the group Sandpeople. You should check out his facebook for songs and updates on his tour @ facebook.com/Sapientkills Lastly, for this video I wanted to try a few new things... I wanted to use only one lens for the main section, and that being a 50mm f1.2 at 1.2. I also wanted to get yet another style of video for Tuerck. The last one we did at the Seattle FD stop was more on the comical side (vimeo.com/28039775), so we decided to flip the Vegas one a different direction. I want to continue to try and find ways to show other sides of these drivers than we are all used to. It's hard for me to follow a driver through a series if I know little about him/her. So my goal was to show how real life a person like Ryan Tuerck is, and how good he is at swinging a beast around like that Camero(which I got a ride in and will never forget). That said, hope you enjoy the work. I've tried uploading this in many different formats, but the audio kept getting lost each time... So, after more than 5 tries, hopefully this one works! Footage from Zoobomb, Switchbacks, NW Passage, Rip City Skate indoor park, and various other Portland spots. Portland is full of amazing places to skate, and we keep finding more every day. Get some! Soul River - www.soulriver-runsdeep.com/ "Spoken Word" is a dynamic conceptual approach to Poetry recently adopted by Soul River to communicate the fashion forward artistic brand drawing inspiration from the outdoors to the urban streets. The term "spoken word" was first originated from the Harlem Renaissance to explain the new artistic expression coming out of the postmodern art movement. This type of performance art is word based and often mixed experimentally with other art forms such as music, theater, and dance. For many years, culture has been communicated by great writers and storytellers, sharing legends, myths, and fables around campfires. While history is no longer communicated this way, the art of storytelling is still very much alive from educational institutions to underground cafes and hidden lounges. Storytelling has also evolved from simple stories to expressive art influenced by their environment speaking to politics, crime, race, religion, culture, and in many circles, fly fishing. Throughout history, many of the world's greatest literary artists wrote and spoke about fly fishing. Mark Twain, Jim Harrison, Pam Houston, Thomas McGuane, Ron Cordes, Gary LaFontaine, John Gierach, and many others tell their stories in the context of fly fishing. Like the sport, fly fishing story telling has evolved past twill jackets and creels, modern urban dwelling anglers, inspired by our new culture music, individualism, and expressionism, have embraced spoken word poetry to tell their tales. Talented minds now converge to share their stories and pay respect to the sport and fellow anglers. Today, in the mist of the outdoors and urban streets you can hear and feel the rhythms of words slammed in to paragraphs with style and passion. Using well-articulated words, these artists turn words in to vivid visual images with no barriers or rules to convey their passion for the sport of fly fishing. By resurrecting an older art form in a new setting and juxtaposing with urban culture, spoken word poetry is breathing new life into the fly fishing story presenting the Soul River brand.
