Port Stephens Bodyboard Club Winter Series A three part season for Port Stephens Bodyboard Club ran over Winter 2013. Round 2 of PSBC's 2013 Winter Series went down in unfamiliar fashion on Sunday with the event taking place in the shifty banks of Morna Point, Anna Bay. A predominate south swell and a cold North wester meant the wave quality was best at the south facing beach break and didn't seem to trample any spirits with a good turn out for each division. A's suited up first with stacked heats and the arrival of two new members Alex Hurst and Denver Perfrement. Both rider's did well but it was Denver who managed to push through to his maiden finals appearance along with Lachlan Bylhouwer, Tre Mesk, Jayce Asher and Jack Forster rounding out the final five. The small conditions favoured the little fellas with some nice pit to roll combos. After the siren sounded it was young Lachlan Bylhouwer that took the honours as A division's round two winner. In most people's opinions it was the AA's that were the most competitive on the day, with every competitor given it their all. Sam Whitton made work of the slow lefts with spin-roll variations and stay within the top two for most of the final. Liam Gray also showed his round 1 win was no fluke managing to stay in the hunt on length of ride scoring combinations. Kane Brewer was also competitive as always but couldn't find the wave quality toward the final five minutes leaving Anthony Thurlow to consolidate a win on the back of some technical prowess which score him a combined score of 13.0 in seemingly impossible conditions. AAA's was a straight final affair which left the door wide open for Drew Sheedy's first ever finals appearance. Drew was evidently running on a high and wanted to push the momentum into the final 20 mins of competition. Unfortunately the waves didn't co-operate with Drew meaning he had to settle for 5th place, Brad Pobje also couldn't piece together 2 high scoring waves leaving the door open for Dallas, Dog and D5 owner operator John Cruickshank. Dallas did his best on the inside but couldn't match the quality of moves the Dog and John produced as the two steamed away from the pack toward the final minutes. Although Dog was too strong in the end with 12 spins (or was it 5?) and a roll to nail his first win of the season. A big thank you to everyone who turned up and am really looking forward to our final round on September 1st! There will be loads of prizes from our awesome sponsors District 5 Bodyboard Store, Agent 18 Wetsuits & Science bodyboards.
