DEFENSE was the name of the game on Oct. 5, 2012, at West Valley High School in Cottonwood, Calif., as the Central Valley Falcons, who came into the game with a 1-4 record, stunned the previously unbeaten West Valley Eagles 31-7 in the Northern Athletic League opener for both teams. The Falcons "D" shut down the Eagles offense, while C.V.'s offense - although committing a few turnovers and penalized more than once nullifying some big gains - gained over 400 yards of total offense. They were led by Connor Silveria, who rushed for 150 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns, and Raycial Lovett, who caught two passes from quarterback Timmy Naylor for 73 yards. Naylor also intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown for the Falcons second score. Jesus Guiterrez added a 29-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.
