          • White House Urges Americans To Sign Up For Healthcare As ACA Deadline Nears

            from Geoff Bennett / Added

(Aired February 12, 2015 on NY1 and Time Warner Cable News) The deadline to enroll for health care under the Affordable Care Act is this Sunday, February 15. Washington, D.C. reporter Geoff Bennett filed a report to check up on the state of President Barack Obama’s signature achievement. If you don’t have already health insurance through an employer, Medicare, or Medicaid, the Obama administration wants you to know: there are just a few days left to enroll in health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Sunday, February 15 is the final deadline for 2015 coverage. “So this is such a great opportunity for every American to take advantage of the ability to get affordable healthcare tailored for your needs. And so we just want everyone to go online, educate themselves about the options that are available in their states, and sign up,” said senior White House advisor Valerie Jarrett. The White House says almost 10 million people have signed up or renewed their coverage this enrollment period, but the Affordable Care Act still faces a few obstacles. More Americans – 46 percent – have an unfavorable view of the law, according to a tracking poll by Kaiser Health. Plus, just last week, House Republicans voted for the 56th time to repeal or undermine it. And there’s yet another looming Supreme Court challenge to the law, but it’s one the Obama administration says they’ll win. “We’re very confident that it’s constitutional. So we have made our case, and we will continue to do so in the courts,” said Jarrett. This enrollment period has gone much more smoothly than the first, which was plagued by failures of the website HealthCare.gov. And you should know, the tax penalties for going uninsured are higher this year, a minimum of $325 per adult.
