          • Tech M&A to flourish in second half of 2010

            01:34

            from The Deal / Added

Dealmakers predict the second half of the year will see a resurgence in tech M&A, fueled by pent-up demand on the buy side, combined with long-held assets on the sell side plus the desire to avoid increased taxes on deals expected in the future. In the fourth quarter, dealmaking activity may even reach a level difficult for the banks, law firms and other advisory firms to handle. Watch The Deal's video montage with Antenna Software's Jim Hemmer, Silicon Valley Bank's Megan Scheffel, Jordan, Edmiston Group's Scott Peters and PricewaterhouseCoopers' Greg Peterson. Sir Rod Eddington has urged Australia to explore third-country opportunities as a way of leveraging its close relationship with Japan. ‘We need to recognise the work of Japanese companies outside of Japan and in the rest of Asia’, he said. Eddington highlighted that Australia’s trading relationship with Japan has been built on the export of resources and agriculture, and the import of high quality precision-manufactured goods. However, as both economies are now increasingly services dominant, Eddington sees great opportunity for more comprehensive linkages. ‘Unless we’re careful, we may see ourselves behaving like an old married couple: we’re entirely familiar with one another’s strengths …and weaknesses. And we forget that we need to invest in the relationship into the future’, he said. This video was recorded on Friday 25 June 2010 in Melbourne.
