CNBC is the dominant voice in financial news. As a result, they capture a huge, affluent, loyal audience every single day. They recognized an opportunity to expand their brand into Primetime with entertainment programming anchored around the network's core theme: money. This new brand needed to appeal to upwardly mobile men, feel premium without being elitist, and make a clear visual and tonal break from Business Day. We engineered the look, feel, motion and voice to create a premium, masculine brand with an edge. Stark black and white photography and simple, monospaced type create a marked contrast to the busy, colorful, data-driven daypart. Language injects the design with a confident, cocky tone. In motion, the imagery shears into clean, graphic slices that ease from shot to shot with the precision of a Swiss watch. A crisp logo resolve caps off every promo and ID. The mark itself is simple, balanced and bold. In addition to the graphic toolkit, we shot live-action in the California desert and the Hollywood Hills to build a library of luxury and lifestyle footage. To round out the toolkit, we also curated a library of premium sourced photography. Credits Client: CNBC Design + Animation: Gretel Typefaces: Decima Mono, Tungsten, Interstate

This is a short test with the tripod in the same spot switching between prime lenses to show how the crop affects the 7D. The subject, ace stand in Chris Clement, was roughly five feet from the camera. This isn't meant to be an aesthetic test to show the difference in image quality between the two cameras. It's a down and dirty field guide for myself and the other shooters we work with so we can quickly figure what lens we want to use on each camera. We go from 20mm all the way to 100mm with a Lensbaby composer thrown in at the very end.

As part of international Pillow Fight Day - Los Angeles, some friends and I biked to downtown to see what's up. The energy levels were through the roof. I had no intention of making a video, but the atmosphere sort of was asking to be properly documented. I took my camera straight into the core of the arena. Music By: Sylvia - Pillow Talk

As a kid growing up in a time where mutants reigned supreme in the city and lasers accompanied by wailing guitars were standard, I felt that a homage was required. What better way to show your love for such a thing than a polygonal unicorn emerging from the hood of a countach. I paid my dues.

In an idea that came to fruition in the beginning of 2010 in Hong Kong, POW WOW was created as an exhibition of creative talents which stressed more so the background and development of art. As opposed to the often seen focus on the finished product, POW WOW set forth in giving the public access to artists in their element as they went to work on their respective pieces. In this series, we take a look at POW WOW 2011 which took place in founder Jasper Wong’s native Hawai’i and the comprehensive process that surrounded the event. While Hawai’i has had its fair share of creative output, POW WOW has represented the island’s most concentrated effort to help push and build the local artistic community. A Kickstarter page has recently been started in anticipation of next year’s 2012 event, and donations can be made at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jasperwong/pow-wow-hawaii-2012. We bring you Part 1 of our series on POW WOW Hawai’i 2011 which took place earlier this year in February. The multi-day event offered a number of sights and sounds as an international group of artists each went about creating their artwork amidst an open environment. http://hypebeast.com/2011/05/pow-wow-hawaii-2011-part-i
