The following video is part of a series that was recorded as for an assignment in a class on Teaching Individual Sports at Eastern Oregon University. The purpose of this segment is to demonstrate the introduction to a form of teaching known as "problem based learning". This type of teaching involves presenting students with a challenge, in this instance pocketing a billiard ball and controlling the rebounding cue ball. The students are not given instruction on how to perform the challenge, instead they work individually and cooperatively to find techniques to solve the proposed problem.

This is a project-based lesson to be used in a math class that has already covered trigonometric functions. The problem is open-ended, so there is no requirement to use trigonometry or any other specific math standard. The video includes cues to pause and give students time to work on the problem. I offered the problem within one 70-minute class period.

Africa is failing to properly educate Africa’s Child. EDuQ8’s mission is to design PROTOTYPE SCHOOLS & LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS as part of a unique ‘AFRICAN EDUCATION ECOLOGY’ that will uplift disadvantaged communities in Southern Africa. These schools must educate the whole child, enhance teaching, embrace problem based learning, use technology and foster entrepreneurial skills to empower youth and communities to be self-reliant. This is an African inspired initiative spearheaded by EDuQ8 (a Cape Town based company) working in collaboration with some of the world’s leading Educational Designers and Educators as well as Education Faculties of selected Universities. IMAGINE... Diverse, dynamic schools emanating from and capturing all that is good about Africa, and then spreading to schools in the Americas, Europe and Asia....all held together by the roots of ‘shared learning purposes’ and saying to its communities and children “wherever you are on your learning journey, we will meet you there and help you realise your dreams.” Contact: info@eduq8.co.za Website: www.eduq8.co.za
