    from Ross Institute / Added

Faculty and mentors reflect on issues presented throughout the week and discuss in terms of the sustainability thread in the Ross curriculum. Ross Institute Summer Academy is an annual weeklong conference held in August in East Hampton, NY. Each year, Ross School leadership and faculty come together to engage in professional development and an exchange of ideas with both colleagues and experts in order to improve the Ross School curriculum, education, and experience for students. Summer Academy 2014 examined the Earth’s sustainability crisis with the goal of developing educational materials focused on understanding the complexities of the issues in order to prepare students to find creative solutions in response. Over 50 years, Higher Education provision has expanded enormously, with more students, institutions, courses and professors than previously imagined. This lecture looks at how this has affected the industry: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/more-means-better-fifty-years-of-higher-education Kingsley Amis famously argued that, in higher education, "More Means Worse." On the basis of 50 years of teaching, research and administration, the Provost argues that, on the contrary, the expansion of universities, student numbers and research since the 1960s has benefited students, economies and societies throughout the world. The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College Website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/more-means-better-fifty-years-of-higher-education Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. Persian Gulf is undeniably among the most important bodies of water in the world and a very important shipping route. With its large reserves of fossil fuel it plays a very if not the most important role in global fuel security. Located in the Middle East, the cradle of civilization, money, and writing, it must perhaps be the first body of water navigated systematically by the grand empires of the ancient times. Since the coastal lands, especially the northern coast, of this gulf have been home to the most powerful empires of all time that date back 3 millennia, Persian Gulf’s name can be frequently found in annals of history and ancient accounts of events. Recently, there have been attempts to hijack the identity of this body of water. In this movie experts and academics from around the world provide the historical truth behind the Persian identity of this Gulf. PRESS TV Documentary
