What started out as a video 'just to impress the wife' turned into a flurry of PR, attention from Washington D.C. political lobbyists and loads of other concerned citizens. Prop 37 in the 2012 California elections became a fairly big topic. Hence, this video had numerous companies and people calling to ask if they could use it in commericals, in Apps, and on their own YouTube Channel amongst some other odd requests. This video is a combination of motion graphics mixed with HD footage shot at a live event in La Jolla, CA called, A Berry Good Night, hosted by Bill and Michelle Lerach. What got people excited was the music and the main narrative and character called 'Emily'. (side note: I googled the most common name for women in California and got some result back saying that 'Emily' was the most common name for girls born in 2005.) The HD footage was shot with the Canon 5D Mark III and audio was captured using the Rode Video Mic. Editing was performed using Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro and Plural Eyes.

The increasing state debt has many Californians dissatisfied with the state budget process. Supported by Nicolas Berggruen, Proposition 31 seeks budget reform on a state and local level. The Rose Institute of State and Local Government takes a balanced perspective on this initiative. Visit http://rosereport.org for more information.

California state government is dominated in many ways by interest groups that spend tens of millions of dollars each election cycle supporting and opposing candidates and ballot measures. These interest groups include corporations, professional associations, and labor unions. In recent decades, labor unions—especially public employee unions—have greatly expanded their political spending and influence in the state. This influence is controversial, in part, because it is based on a system whereby unions amass political funds by deducting money from their members’ paychecks, whether individual workers like it or not. Proposition 32 seeks to prohibit this practice, while also prohibiting other organizations, including corporations, from deducting their employees’ salary or wages for political purposes.
