          • Canon Ixus Underwater Video Demo

            from Paul Duxfield Added 1,029 5 10

A short video with music to show the video quality of a modern compact camera(Canon Ixus 100) shooting in HD and edited within Final Cut and output as an mp4 file. Most modern compact cameras are capable of great results. I was using a Canon housing and Inon Wideangle lens, and I used Custom White Balance on the camera to get the colours correct, this is not the same as the Underwater setting, which in my experience is less than ideal in getting great underwater colours. Using custom White Balance which is really easy on the Canons, and it gets the colours correct at a variety of depths, where-as the Underwater setting is only optimised to work well at one depth, around 5m No extra lighting was used and I was shooting between 5 and 18m depth. I am also using exposure lock to stop the video from deviating its exposure in the rapidly changing light. Paul Duxfield Music by Koshiteru-Through the Tunnel

                  from Walter Chung Added

This longnose puffer fish was observed at La Jolla Shores on June 16, 2015. Depth was 13 fsw. Water temperature at that depth was 60 degrees. This puffer fish is just a little north of his normal habitat. [Note, I originally identified this fish as a bullseye puffer fish. However, people much smarter than me let me know that it really is a longnose puffer fish.]

A five minute film of my underwater adventures around the Island of Sipadan in Borneo. You can see whitetip reef sharks, grey reef sharks, an octopus, some puffer fish, clown fish, some tuna, schools of jacks and barracudas, a frogfish, a giant grouper, a giant trevally, a parade of bumphead parrot fish, an eagle ray and lots of turtles. The whole thing is shot using a GoPro action camera without any LCD-screen or additional lights. I hope you like it :) Thanks to Seaventures, Airen Daguinotas and especially my good friend from Norway, Kay Heggem, who also shot some of the footage.
