1カット Canon EOS 5D Mark II + Canon EF24-105mm F4L IS USM f4.0 iso3200 20sec sequential shooting 2,3カット Canon EOS 5D Mark III + Samyang 14mm F2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical ISO12800 6 sec sequential shooting attention 流星は流れずに一瞬光って消えます。 流れるよう移動するのは飛んでいく飛行機か人工衛星です。

On the night of January 3rd I setup my camera to do a time lapse towards the constellation Ursa Major in hopes to catch some meteors from the Quadrantid Meteor shower which peaked on the morning of the 4th around 2:30am (EST). I left the video running from about 8pm to 7am when I crawled out of bed for work. I failed to get anymore than 2 meteors, but I did still get a really nice time lapse video of Ursa Major rising. You can also see as Ursa Minor makes it's appearance and how Polaris doesn't seem to move, even though it actually does. I think I figured out why I didn't get any meteors in the video, and I think it's due to me having the exposure set to 30 seconds which brightened everything causing all meteors that may have been captured to be overexposed or washed out by light pollution.

I went out last night knowing, with the cloud cover and light pollution in my area, that I wouldn't be able to see many meteors. I still wanted to set up a shot with the Kessler Crane Cineslider and Revolution Head on the ice near Lake Michigan. Everything performed brilliantly in the cold weather and even though I didn't catch any meteors, I was really happy with the shot. The city in the distance is actually Chicago. Though still quite a ways away, the light pollution still effects the skies over Lake Michigan. I think I'm now down to just one meteor, and a satellite, both show at the 0:27 mark. The meteor to the left, almost a vertical streak, the satellite on the right just to the left of the mass of tree leaves - outside about the 8 oclock position of the ball of leaves, slightly down and to the left... Hard to see I know. This is more for practice on shooting celestial time lapse. Lots of light noise in my back yard...

I'll do another rendering of this with better resolution and quality images - this was just to try to see if there were any meteors in the set of images I captured when trying to shoot the Quadrantids meteor shower the early morning of 4 January, 2012 From scrubbing this locally, I was able to find two meteors at roughly 1:47 (left side, almost vertical) and 1:49 (right side, just left of lower third of the leafy area of the tree on right). Was a fun exercise in celestial time lapse, lots of light pollution from Austin prevented a better show from my back yard.

Jan 4, 2012 Quadrantids Meteor Shower This was pointing toward Orion, not the most active part of the sky, but there were plenty of meteors on this clear night. I just wish I lived further away from light sources.
