1. Marshall Island Windsurfing Exploration

    from Kevin Pritchard Added 37K 290 23

The trip of a lifetime. I have been bugging Keith Teboul about going to the Marshall Islands for some windsurfing and some good times. Finally I got a message, "Marshalls are going to be good on Thursday, flight leaves tomorrow, bring your camera, your windsurfer, and plenty of sunscreen. You in?" said Keith. Excited like a kid on Christmas, I booked my flights, bought some sunscreen and we were off. I think the images speak for themselves. The beauty of the Marshall Islands is amazing. While this video only shows hard core waves, it seems funny to say, but the thought of freeriding around this place had me pretty fired up. I would say this is the most beautiful place I have been on Earth. 4 Million frequent flyer miles, 27 countries, never have I seen a place like it. Marcilio Browne and Bernd Roediger came along with Keith and I and the trip was a blast. Brawzinho was insane to watch as you will soon see, with some nasty wipeouts. Bernd was even more impressive as he had stayed there for 6 weeks and was really starting to let loose when he was getting barreled by the sea monster and came up with a broken back and some serious time off the water, only allowing us to get a couple clips of him ripping it up. Keith organizes some amazing trips together with Martin Daly @ www.marshallwaves.com It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The water, the beauty, just incredible. Hope you enjoy the clip.

This film is made by a windsurfer, who wanted to make a movie in vision of how he would like a windsurf movie to be or could be. One of the goals is to show the purity of how wave riding could be in the harmony with the water and nature. Our earth is communicating with us trough the waves and a surfer, windsurfer or kiter have the special change to be out there inside earth’s language by the waves themselves. The film is maybe a bit to long in the standards of how long a film like this should be, but to meet the goal to show hole waveride sequences, and how to get out again it ended out this long. Respect the nature, learn how to use it, learn to listen to it, be a part of it, and the nature will give you much more back.

I had just booked my ticket to go to Park City to visit my girlfriend when I happened to check the forecast for Tahiti and saw an 18 second interval pop into the forecast window. With the south swells you can get a pretty good idea at least a week in advance, so I saw this massive swell coming. I talked with "Mr. Baja" Brian Caserio and said looks like there is another swell hitting, you want to go. We both grimaced at the thought of organizing, preparing and rearranging our schedules. The desire to get one of the big south swells, made us excited and craving to man up for the adventure. I called up Graham Ezzy and he started looking into it as well. We kept tossing the idea around over the Santa Cruz AWT event, going back and forth, if we can do it, what is our time frame, how is the swell going to hit and so on. I had just won the single elimination and was pretty happy with that so I was like lets do it. It was a mission. My ticket to Park City was non refundable. So I might as well go see my girlfriend for one day. Hoped on the plane, said hi on Tuesday, then back on the plane on Wednesday, Brian picked me up at LAX, drove to San Diego, slept and hit the road at 5am. Some lack of sleep, some anxiety, and some hints of south swell along the drive, made the drive seem to fly by. Graham had to hook up with another way down as we were full in Brian's Tundra. We didn't see them on the road or when we arrived so, they had to be behind us. We arrived to Punta San Carlos to mast high waves and 4.2 wind. It was blasting. One problem, I didn't bring my 4.2. Shoot. Well lucky for me, the guys at SoloSports carry the new Ezzy Elite sails, and bam I was out on the water. Fully overpowered, mast high, insane conditions. This is just what the doctor ordered. Wave after wave, it was insane. Growing up in Southern California, Baja is where my brother and I learned to windsurf in the waves. It is the best spot in the world in my opinion to learn to wave sail. This was it, this is what we had dreamed of all our lives, wind, waves, and the biggest south swell of the summer hitting Baja. I had waited 20 years, I know that dates me, but I really had waited 20 years to get this place like with the waves like we had. It sounds cliche but it was a dream come true. I mean for the last 15 years of my professional career, to be able to take time to jet down for a swell when you are competing on the PWA world tour, is pretty tough to pull off. The worlds aligned, it came together and for the next three days, we had all we could handle. Wave after wave, set after set, it was just awesome. I am still glowing from the trip and can't wait for the next surgical strike. ~ Kevin Pritchard A Maui Nerd Production www.mauinerds.com Camera: Kevin Pritchard // Brian Caserio // Graham Ezzy Graphics & Editing: Johannes Neumann Supported by: Ezzy Sails // Dakine // www.solosports.net "You just don't know, until you go!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check Episode One: vimeo.com/75500787 Check also our teaser: vimeo.com/70628144 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music: Agnes Obel - Chord Left Charles Bradley – where do you go from here Pretty Lights - Reel 5 Break 3

                  from Tormod Happysurfer Added 9,481 33 4

This video was first meant for FB, with collections of friends and so on as a look forward to come back to Maui in the fall 2011, “I am ready”. But when I worked on it the quality started to come up to vimeo level so I decided to put extra work on it, I retained the friends there and also added in video/pictures of the pros. I even added myself in the video, which turn down the average a lot in skills of windsurf, but keep it up in fear and happyness. My goal with this video was also to practise in edit sync between music video and and pictures. I am from the start not a big fan about stillphotoes in a collage like this, but I have a lot of nice photos taken so I gave it a try. My goal was also to put in classical music. As a listener to all kinds of music, I have tried classical music in watersport projects before but without cuccsess and ended out with other music in the final render, but here, I think Mozart suits quite well. If some of the stills are boring, I recommend you to be patient and wait for some of the slow mo video parts. I am a slow mo fan, and my goal with this project was also to practice editing extreme slow mo. In the slow mo parts there are still some unwanted warping disturbances in some frames, so I can be even better in this. Some of the video shots has been used before, but here in a different style. Maybe some of the slow mo parts also will go into a video-only project later on. The shots are taken on Maui mostly fall 2010, but there are also some from 2009, 2008 and 2007. The shots are mostly done with Canon 7D and much with Canon EF 100-400mm lens. A few shots are done with GoPro. The video is edited in After Effect, and plug-ins used are AF built inn plug-ins, one plug-in from RE:Vision Effects for the slow mo parts, and some plug-ins from Red Giant in special for color correction. The rendered result was then compressed in QuickTime 7 pro, as an H264 mov file before it was uploaded to vimeo. I look foward to shoot more video in the fall of 2011, but windsurf and surf are always first priority.

After a long summer in Europe without much windsurfing, I returned home to Maui to prepare for the upcoming Aloha Classic World Cup at Hookipa. My training for the contest focused on the fundamentals of waveriding: turns. "Back to Maui Part 1: Training," starts with a messy 360 captured on my first day back in the water, and as the edit progresses you can see my sailing improve as I get back into the Hookipa mindset. We shot this footage on 3 separate days during the 2 weeks before the contest. Part 2 will feature my windsurfing from the Aloha Classic. Music: "Walla Walla" by Glass Animals
