Small exerpts of Raag Yaman alap on north Indian santoor, performed by Andrei Demidenko. This alap demonstration is the short version, because full one can be rendered for an hour without any difficulties and consists of three parts: Alap, Jor and Jhala. It starts from deep and patient entrance into the mood of the raag, then at Jor part some movement starts and becomes more and more obvious. The last part of alap - Jhala, can accelerate the rhythm to the end of performers abilities. On this video only first part is demonstrated. Dhwani is a TV series based on Hindustani raags - each episode takes one (or a few) raags, and uses popular as well as classical music to bring it to life. It is edutainment - each episode educates about a few specific aspects of the Hindustani classical tradition. This episode looks at Raag Yaman, a bright and auspicious evening raag. It also talks about the seven basic (shuddha) notes of Hindustani music (Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa'), the one tivra (relatively shart) note (tivra Ma / augmented fourth) and how film songs, while based on a raag, often don't showcase the raag in its pure form. It is a 7-minute edit of the episode - originally intended as a marketing screener. It has English subtitles.+ More details
