This is a stop motion music video I was commissioned to make for the band Nada Surf and their labul Barsuk Records. It was filmed at Arch Cape, Oregon, on the coast and also in a dark basement in Providence, Rhode Island. I have been inspired and influenced by animators who use found objects as their animation materials, such as Jan Svankmajer and the Brothers Quay, and have applied my love of those materials and types of slightly mechanical movements in this video.

'Granny Old Wound' Tom Hagerman Directed/Animated by Rachel Blumberg www.tomhagerman.com www.rachelblumberg.com Tom Hagerman is best known for his multi-instrumentalist role in the genre-defying band, DeVotchKa. December 6th sees the release of his sophomore solo album, “Idle Creatures” (Cicero Recordings, 2011). It is a record filled with music that is equally joyful, despairing, precious, and absurd. The album features something of a piecemeal indie chamber orchestra, which also includes an appearance by Austin's Tosca String Quartet. It was recorded at various studios and homes in Colorado and Texas and mixed in Portland, Oregon in-between writing, recording, and touring with DeVotchKa.

This is video from Y.A.W's (Young Artists Workshop) very first workshop entitled 'Make Your Own Junkyard Band.' The workshop was held at The Woods, a music venue in Portland, Oregon, on February 27th, 2010. We had ten kids between the ages of 9 and 12 participate. The kids made instruments out of recycled and found objects. The instruments were based on a 15th century instrument called the Stumpf or Devil's Fiddle, but everyone was encouraged to be as creative as they could. Once the instruments were made, the kids got together into groups, wrote songs with their instruments, and then performed them on the stage at The Woods for a small audience. It was an amazing and fun time! For more information about Y.A.W and our workshops please visit our tumblr site: youngartistsworkshop.tumblr.com/ or e-mail us at youngartistsworkshop@gmail.com.

Featured in Umpqua Bank's neighborhood store locations, this animated tale about community is a collaboration between local artist Amy Ruppel, local musician Rachel Blumberg, and Portland-based Fashionbuddha animation studio. We've been fans of Amy's distinctive artwork made of cut paper, wax and wood for years and jumped at the opportunity to bring her woodland creatures to life. As challenging as it was rewarding, the final animation is a clever mix of stop motion, 2D and 3D. ________ C R E D I T S Design // Amy Ruppel Animation // Fashionbuddha Music // Rachel Blumberg
