Since we posted Ethel's tribute video we've had a few friends ask to see an old video we made for her little mate Lucy. Our little Lucy passed away on January 13, 2012. She was the inspiration behind Beloved Canine and, in general, an inspiration to everyone who got a chance to meet her. Lucy was healthy and strong until the end. She died peacefully in her sleep, snuggled up in our arms. We are so happy she got to leave this earth on her own terms. She was just that kind of dog. Take a moment, grab a tissue, and admire our cute little Goose. Music: What a Wonderful World / Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

http://belhistory.weebly.com From its inception in 1966, the BROTHERHOOD OF ETERNAL LOVE (BOEL or BEL) has been pioneering and shaping society. They've made ground-breaking movies, inspired numerous books, created music, and promoted the "Peace & Love" ethos. (Orange Sunshine is the title of an upcoming documentary on the brotherhood by filmmaker William Kirkley, and a boo by Nick Schou.) Numerous counter-culture heroes, scientists, musicians, writers, and artists have been inspired and influenced by their lifestyle prescriptions. Arguably, they were the Ground Zero of West Coast counterculture. They fueled a cultural revolution, certainly in Southern California and beyond. The universalist philosophy of 'Farmer' John Griggs spread far and wide. BEL represented an ideal, a twisted cultural mission that transcended riding waves and that could have only happened in the Laguna Canyon during that revolutionary time. It fed into a new global mythology of bigger and better stories, of life lived more fully with spontaneous options -- a more organic perspective, more imaginative, more synchronistic. Psychedelics were used in "occult" circles in the mid-1800's, then in "artistic" circles in the early-1900's, and widely in the late-1900's. Psychedelic parties were part of the LA-Hollywood scene from the mid-50s and Harvard in the early 60s. Leary was part of that intelligentsia. Some brothers loved him; some thought he brought too much heat. Outmoded and limited perceptions, myths and metaphors were recast, redesigning the human fabric and all our ways of seeing. Movies like "Endless Summer" and "Rainbow Bridge" gave rise to new archetypes, and the evolution of old ones -- a new cultural Zeitgeist. Myth facilitates the health of the psyche. New stories change outworn habits. This is what the artist knows and uses for inspiration -- a rebirth of the self. . .new ways of being. Everything happens Now. Some commentators have a very cynical view of the Brotherhood, while others are more reportorial. But the best reports come from those who were there, lived it, and are still living it. No one person knows the whole story; all they know is their involvement or 2nd and 3rd-hand stories they've heard. Many people never even met in person; all that was known was the product. The Brotherhood remains a seminal influence. BEL was many things to many people and there are many things it was not and never could be. Oliver Stone's movie "Savages" was set in Laguna Beach, and its prequel "Kings of Cool" draws even more liberally on the legends of the Brotherhood for its story line. Those stories are all woven together here. Not everyone knew each other at the time or over the different locales. That is because BEL also pioneered Spiritual Activism, Social Networking and Cosmic Networking. And, hey -- they are still the Kings of Kool. Music by Marshall Gilula.

A year ago today, a small piece of me left this earth. My dog, my best friend, my comfort... had to be put to sleep. A year later and I still miss him every day. I carry his collar with me, I'm not ready to let him go yet. This is the tribute to Donnie I made the day he left us. It's to show how much I have appreciated all he has done for me. He has been the best friend I could ever have. He has been with me through the good and the bad. He has seen me at my best and at my worst, and still loved me unconditionally. We have laughed and cried, loved and mourned. We have traveled great distances and shared a great life together. , but I know I will see him in the end. I only hope he is wagging his tail when we meet again. ♥

Sweetie, a former street dog from Watts, was the happiest, most loving, silly girl; she was respectful and got along great with everyone. Shortly after joining ACPB, Sweetie was diagnosed with congenital renal dysplasia. Sweetie's foster family immediately decided to adopt her and made her an official member of their family. She lived out her life in her fabulous forever home with two doggy siblings and one kitty brother. In January 2013, Sweetie joined other our ACPB angels across the rainbow bridge. Sweetie was with us for a very short time, but she has left a mark on our hearts as sweet as her spirit and smile. We feel very honored and grateful that Sweetie spent her short time with us bathed in warmth, love, and fun. She is now spending her days with our other ACPB angels. Rest in peace Sweetie. • Remembering Our Belle

Our Belle was a very special horse who unfortunately fractured her right foreleg beyond repair late in the afternoon of November 9th, 2012. Once we confirmed there was nothing we could do to make her well, we made the only choice we could . . . to help her transition from this life as easily and painlessly as possible. Belle was a wonderful mother, and a wonderful outgoing mare who loved her people and accepted many others into her life. We wanted to share our memories with you, and even if you never had a chance to get to know her in life, we think you'll get to know her . . . at least in a small way . . . from this short photo video. You can't know Belle without knowing a bit about her two daughters, her friend and companion of many years, Fox, who preceded her to the Rainbow Bridge, his pasture companion Contradancer (who we called Wonder, and whose painting is part of the video), and a few more. The photos speak louder than words ever can. We've included the story of the Rainbow Bridge, which gives us comfort now, as it has in the past when we've lost animals whose lives have been intertwined with ours. We hope that it will soften your losses, too. There are two pieces of music. The first is Lady Fair's Lament, a soothing Celtic piece. The second is Belle's favorite, Old Susanna . . . we couldn't let her go without her song. As Teren and I put this video together, it helped to soften the edges of our grief a shade. That's the way it can be with memories of good times. We know Belle didn't suffer for long, and that at the close of the day, we gave her the very most welcome gift we could give. As it softens our loss, we hope this memory will soften a bit of this or that for you, too.
