Today, I went out to get some shots with my Canon 600D (T3i) and it's new raw capability - thanks to magic lantern. The added Dynamic Range is wonderful. Although I love raw and the longer workflow is it worth for me, the biggest flaw of raw ( :D ) on the 600D is the low resolution. something in the range of 800x400 is the maximum for continuous shooting. So i went for 1280x544 and short takes. (About 4s maximum). Sometimes pink artifacts appear, so plan some flexiblity in your shoot.

This step in ML recording is a no way back step and a must have killer feature. All 8bit white distortions were saved back in the DNGs, the blue sky was white before ACR!! Absolute stunning! Thanks to the Magic Lantern Team! Once more sadlessly to less time for more eyecatching scenes! The mainscene needs about an hour and drives me crazy while i want to have an 100% 1:1 axis to original marble floor which is a circular pedestal and this takes me test the right dolly angle 30 times and more! ;-) Cam: 5D MKII Lens: Walimex 35mm VDSRL 1.8 CF: Komputerbay 1000x ML: latest with no drops Physical Resolution: 1600x680 in 25fps Converter: eyeframe, DNGs NLE: PP CC Music: DCD Location: Emsdetten

Lightroom to After effects tutorial workflow now up http://vimeo.com/akpe/tut PLS DOWNLOAD ORIGINAL FOR BETTER QUALITY So my reason for putting together these random footages is so i can experiment on what post processing Raw footages looks like compare to the usual compressed H.264 most of us are use to. The workflow of having to first convert your files individually to dng, then grading or colour correcting individual footage in LR or PS, then now converting them to proress files with after effects or Quicktime is really loooooong. Between grading in Photoshop's ACR, AE's ACR or Lightroom, i went with LIGHTROOM as it had a nice flow to it and gave me a better end result. This was my first time working with video Raw files and i must say I WAS BLOWN AWAY by the details i was able to bring back and achieve in post...wow. I intentionally over exposed most of my footages and used the wrong white balance just to see how well i can save the footages in post and boy was i IMPRESSED :) I definitely see myself shooting music videos in RAW mode Shot with : Canon 5D Mk3 Canon 24mm 1.4 Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro Lexar 64gb 1000x Post in: Raw2dng (Only found out about RAWMagic later) Adobe Lightroom Adobe after effects Adobe Premiere cs6 Music Enigma-Shadows in silence *Pls feel free to leave your comments

This was just a simple test to see what ML RAW can do with a Canon Mark II. H.264 = 1.920x1.080px, 25fps ML RAW = 1.856x1.044px, 25fps (due to the CF Card) CF Card = SanDisk ExtremePro, 32GB, 90MB/s, UDMA7 Final Video = 1.856x1.044px, 25fps Shot with: Canon 16-35mm, 2,8 Canon 24-70mm, 2,8 Canon 70-200mm, 2,8 Post: Raw2dng (for dng Files) Adobe Lightroom (for CC) Adobe After Effects (for import edited dng files and export in H.264) Adobe Premiere (for editing) No sharpening applied to footage Music: Art of Noice- Moments in Love Inspired by: http://vimeo.com/72008856

Captured using a PNY Class 10 card in 1280x536 resolution. ISO 6400 I believe. Dropped frames and recording stopped at the end of this video. I used After Effects to correct white balance and export to ProRes422 and then I did some slight color grading using Colorista and RGB Curves in Premiere. Then exported to a 1920x800 H264 @10mbps. Also 960 width resolution runs fine (no stops) since it comes under the ~20mb/s write speed limit on the SD controllers (but you get a 16mm-like crop).

                      Tags
