The Harvest Day Celebration at the Schiele Museum's Backcountry Farm in Gastonia, NC is a living lesson in history. Skilled re-enactors demonstrate an authentic 18th century version of our contemporary Thanksgiving, laboring by an open hearth, baking, and stewing a “grand fare” of traditional delights. Museum Director Dr. Ann Tippitt explains why this popular annual event invites us to experience with all our senses life in another century. The 2013 Harvest Day Celebration takes place on Saturday, November 23rd, 10 AM - 4PM. Produced by Donald Devet • www.nowandthenvideo.com Funding provided by Carolina Arts Journalism Alliance

War of 1812 Nancy Island Wasaga Beach Sunday, August 18, 2013 Just a very quick look at a few of the wonderful people who, almost exclusively, donate their own time and financial resources to bring history to life. Everyone was so generous in taking the time to talk to us. I wish I could post all the video I took. These amazing re-enactors not only recreated the battles, but dressed, ate, and lived authentically for days as they did so! Battle re-enactments: free. Nancy Island camp entrance: $5/adult, children under 12 free. Wandering around 1812 and free history lessons: priceless! Thank you. Marie

April 19 in Concord Massachusetts brings together re-enactors, tourists, locals, historians, kids, marching bands - even puppets - to celebrate the first dramatic events of the American Revolution. Is it entertainment? commemoration? historical fantasy? Whatever your take on the events, they are part of America's heritage and especially significant in the wake of the Boston bombings. This short documentary was filmed on location over 4 days in 2013, under the auspices of Concord's local access television station, CCTV.
